MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF ITSO:

To develop and implement local Cyber Security Policy and Procedures (CSPP) for their specific AOR where required. This will be in developed from MOD and Air CSPP.

Manage the Cyber Security of all non-MODNET assets within their AOR and scope.

Updating and maintaining the Cyber Threat Analysis Tool (CTRA) ensuring that all non-MODNET assets including but not limited to Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs), Tablets, Cameras, Printers are status recorded when they are received, returned or destroyed.

Understand the accreditation process and the Defence Assurance Risk Tool (DART) in order to guide submitters within HMS SULTAN through the process.

Act as focal point for triaging, actioning, and responding to MODCERT Directives.

Ensure that all the assets within their AOR are accredited and maintained throughout life. Retain a copy of all Accreditation Certificates and Security Operating Procedures (SyOPs).

Ensure anti-virus updates and patches are carried out within the required timeframe and in accordance with SyOPs. Contacting MCSU Service Desk with any issues.

Retain a copy of all master passwords for the assets within their AOR. These will be held in a cabinet / blister box controlled by the Unit Security Officer (USO).

The ITSO will support the USO when a monthly 10% spot check of all Cyber assets within their AOR is carried out. By the end of the year a 100% check will have been carried out.

Ensure all Information and Cyber breaches are reported to Air / Navy WARP through a Security Incident Reporting Form regardless of whether they were resolved at local level.

When required, monitor and / or assist with investigations into significant Cyber incidents.

Ensure that HMS SULTAN has a Cyber Champion to act as an ambassador through upholding of good security hygiene and maintaining a positive security culture by providing security advice and guidance, delivering education and awareness briefs.

Carry out annual Cyber assurance of holdings, policy, and procedures of subordinate units where applicable.

Provide support to all visits where Cyber assets are involved. These may be from, but not limited to Air CyISOC, Air PSyA, SCIDA.

Ensure that all Cyber related changes to PSyA (Air) Directives, Security Advisory Briefs, Air CyISOC directives are distributed to all department heads within HMS SULTAN.

Where necessary, to produce up to date instructions for assets, e.g. Printers, scanners, fax machines etc.

To conduct HMS SULTAN OOD duties as detailed.

To be available for whole ship duties as detailed and required by HMS SULTAN Executive Officer

Must be an OR9, OF1 or OF2 of ANY specialisation. 

OF3 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of ***.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Essential competence (which can be obtained once in post if not already in possession of):

  • Defence IT Security Officer (DITSO) (delivered at Chicksands – 3-4 days)
  • Cyber 101 (DLE)

Cyber Foundation Pathway Module Zero (Part A conducted on DLE. Part B takes place at Defence Academy Shrivenham)

Information Assurance Risk Management for HMG (delivered at Defence Academy - 2 days).

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 2 YEARS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
