Several vacancies have arisen for Corporal to Flight Sergeant (OR4 to OR7) ex-Regular personnel to serve at RAF Lossiemouth on Part Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS). 

RAF Lossiemouth is the only RAF combined Combat Air (CA) and Intelligence, Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Station in the RAF.  The mission is to provide Quick Reaction Alert (Interceptor) North (QRA(I)N), Typhoon and Poseidon P-8A (Maritime Patrol) Operations and supporting other operational flying from RAF Lossiemouth for UK based air activities and supporting other foreign nations air assets. Additionally, RAF Lossiemouth supports flying training requirements for other RAF stns and the allied nations.

As an Operations Support (Ops Spt) Reservist at RAF Lossiemouth, you may find yourself working within Air Ops Sqn, providing 24-hour support for QRA(I)N or supporting 24/7 Maritime Patrol Operations protecting the air and seas around the UK. RAF Lossiemouth also supports major NATO and UK exercises.

Must either have been, or currently be, a Cpl – FS Air & Space Ops (TG7) or legacy FO/AS (TG9/12); or an SAC – Air & Space Ops or legacy FO/AS – eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board. If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for a post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge, and experience to be considered by the Promotion Board.

Personnel who cannot provide the minimum of 13 months service prior to reaching the Normal Retirement Age (NRA) may still apply and will be considered subject to the post sponsor securing a Conditional Extension of Service.

The understanding and Integration of information between external organisation, Stn Operations, Engineering, and other enabling functions to ensure all Flying Operations requirements and governance are addressed and maintained.

Q-FOSC/Q-ASSC or equivalent Ph2 for ASOS

Able to commit to between 35 – 90 days support, which may include weekends, evenings, and shifts (if required)

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Communication and collaboration skills, including evidence of a strong ability to build and maintain relationships with personnel of a variety of ranks

Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and work with flexibility, initiative, and imagination.

 

Previous Stn Ops experience

SCEPTRE (mission planning tool) Management Course

Significant knowledge and understanding of a mission planning tool

Experience of Fast-Jet / MPA flying operations

Civilian Driving Licence/FMT600.

The appointment is on Part Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 3 for an initial period of up to 5 years.

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case-by-case basis.

Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment.  Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Professions Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview.

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister Services may apply but will only be accepted into the Royal Air Force Reserves if an appropriate Professions advisor can be identified to sponsor the applicant.  The relevant Profession’s advisor approval must be agreed before the interview.

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen).

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS.  For currently serving PTVRs confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a transfer process, agreed by both losing and gaining units.

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of the Ex Regular Seamless Transfer process (application to be submitted within 12 months of leaving the RAF) or by applying online via the Electronic Direct Entrant process on RITS if previous service ended >12 months ago.

SMEs will be recruited in the rank their last substantive Regular rank.  They should fulfil their identified role using the skills gained whilst serving as a Regular and therefore require little or no additional training.  Any training required will be limited to routine refresher or familiarisation instruction on new processes or equipment; some Phase 3 training, but only that which enhances the individual’s worth or the benefit they provide to the Service, or that which is required to keep SQEP status.

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

Annual Salary.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces. 

Personnel serving on PTVR are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB. However, due to a severe shortage, it is unlikely that accommodation will be available at RAF Lossiemouth.
