Vacancy detail

Role: Desk lead for the management of the Defence Exercise Programme (DXP) and the delivery of Defence Annual Guidance for Exercises (DAGE) under the DCDS Mil Strat Ops governance regime. 
Responsibilities:  
1. Manage the development of the DXP to deliver a balanced, coherent and affordable plan for endorsement by Service Chiefs annually.  
2. Create Defence’s high tiered (2, 2+, 3 and 4) Collective Training schedule through the integration of Collective Training activity across Defence’s Military Commands. This includes relevant activity with Partners Across Government, most notably the National Cyber Force.  
3. Assist those entities responsible for Force Generation for Operations and Contingency, Force Development and Experimentation, Defence Engagement and Influence and UK prosperity/Defence Sales seize opportunities within the DXP.  
4. Assist Defence in ensuring that DXP CT activity aligns with policy and adheres to the priorities set by DCDS Mil Strat Ops’ governance process.  
5. Coordinate the resourcing of Joint enablers to the appropriate exercise leads. Identify and where possible resolve conflict and where unable elevate issues for resolution to the appropriate level.  
6. Responsible for the production and delivery of DAGE to set the joint collective training focus for JF25. This also sets Defence policy and prioritisation for exercises.  
7. Ensure the DXP links to Allied exercise programmes and seeks opportunities to enable multi domain integration for Defence. 
8. Chair the monthly DXP WG and act as secretary to the biannual 1* Defence Joint Collective Training & Exercise Committee.

SO1 DXP is the officer that coordinates and tracks the entire (300+) Defence Exercise Programme on behalf of Defence. He/she runs the pan-domain working groups and negotiations that deconflict the timings and resources that allow Defence’s training and readiness cycle to be implemented. SO1 DXP ultimately authors the Defence Annual Guidance on Exercising as an Annex to Defence Strategic Direction, which effectively makes up CDS’s orders to the TLBs on exercising priorities and themes 3 years out
