Unit & Position Role

To practically transition Civilians into Sailors within the Royal Navy, by instilling discipline, obedience, pride and self-respect in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

 The role of the PO/SGT Drill Instructor is to deliver and facilitate the delivery of the Phase 1 INT Drill syllabus, as laid out in BRd 1834 (Royal Navy Ceremonial Drill). Each Drill Instructor is to plan, prepare and deliver a Ceremonial pass out for the completion of the recruits 10 week training programme, incorporating all Interval and Arms Drill taught in previous lessons. They will also deliver Ceremonial Sword training to Officers / Warrant Officers and be required to deliver various internal and external Ceremonial events outside of the Establishments daily commitments.

Responsibilities

Conduct basic training of Part 1 trainees as directed by his/her Divisional Officer iaw TDOR 7103 held by TDL.

Parade Instructor.

To conduct Parade training to male and female trainees.

To attend all weekday and Ceremonial Divisions.

To be Duty Parade Instructor as required by ESO’s.

To carry out all Parade administration regarding Divisions

To be accountable to the PSM for the Parade training of all trainees and for the standard of their instruction iaw BR 1834.

Accountable to the PSM for the daily Parade training routines.

Domestic Considerations 


Incumbent will be employed as a Phase 1 Drill Instructor and will be responsible for the delivery of the Phase 1 Drill Syllabus including arms drill for ceremonial events. Each entry consists of 66 recruits, currently there are 10 Divisions in training at any one time which equates to 660 being trained on HMS RALEIGH Parade ground every week. Incumbent will deliver Drill Instruction between the hours of 0710-1710 Mon-Fri and will also be required to perform Parade Office Instructor duties that entail the Parade Office being opened and closed outside of normal working hours. Incumbent will assist the PSM with all internal and external Ceremonial events that take place outside of hours and over the weekend.

Incumbent will also keep INT duties (this includes weekends, as well as weekdays) providing WDoC for up to 240 recruits. The duties last for 24 hours and currently INT are working to 2-3 duties per month.

Must be an OR6 of AWW specialisation. OR4 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered. 

OR7 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OR6.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

The following are to be achieved either before or whilst in post:

DBS CHECK (ENHANCED) / ENGLAND AND WALES JOINT - Must be achieved before taking up the post.

INSTRUCTIONAL DEFENCE TRAINER JOINT

WARFARE PO (WS)(AWW) CEREMONIAL TRAINING STAFF

MEDICAL LEVEL 2 FIRST AID (CBRNDC 23) NAVY

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.




INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

NB: Where the Anticipated Start date has already passed, the start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rate or more above or one rate only below the advertised rate. Applicants one rate below may be employed in the acting higher rate (excluding the advertised rate of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rate then the rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 Permanently Unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.

Ex-Regular Reserves other ranks of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however will have to transfer to the RFR and conduct a period of Marinisation if they are selected as the preferred candidate.
