Position Role:

FF WO LO (2) will support SO2 FF acting as the interface between IPS, DAs, DIO, Def Res, FLCs and FF wishing to use the MOD DTE.  The post will be based in Warminster but will require some overseas travel to generate interest (and IG) and act as the FF LO across the Trg Estate for any recces and subsequent exercises. Contributing to MOD's Defence Engagement (DE) strategy, FF LO will facilitate FF use of MOD DTE by liaising closely with DAs, IPS Desk Offrs, IPS Foreign Liaison Offrs, London Embassy staffs, sS International Branches and MOD DTE to ensure that appropriate trg estate is deconflicted for FF use.  Equally importantly, and as part of HMG's Prosperity Agenda, FF LO will, with SO2 FF, be responsible for working with Def Res to ensure that charges are raised, and receipts recovered from FF for use of MOD DTE. As a secondary duty, the individual will be required to support DIO UK Ops planning and execution. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Support SO2 FF acting as the principal POC for FF using MOD DTE throughout their recces and exercises.
  2. Support FF exercises, acting as the LO for recces and exercises whilst ensuring that FF adhere to the Safe System of Training on MOD DTE and TOPL.
  3. Support SO2 FF who has the lead for FF.
  4. Liaise and plan, in partnership with IPS, FLOs, sS, DIO, future FF use of MOD DTE.
  5. Assist FF in range area bookings, associated paperwork and regulation compliance.
  6. Support SO2 FF with briefing courses on MOD DTE availability and capabilities.
  7. Support SO2 FF to ensure that FF are billed for use of MOD DTE and that payments are recovered.
  8. Support SO2 FF as the interface with London Embassies to ensure smooth execution of FF MOD DTE usage.
  9. Capture lessons identified that impact on future Foreign Forces training informing DIO OS&TRG subject matter experts and the Lessons Exploitation Centre.
  10. Be prepared to support DIO OS&Trg planning for and execution of support to UK Ops.

Domestic Considerations: Be prepared to support FF Units, both in the UK and Overseas. Some overseas travel will be required. > than 50 nights out of bed supporting FF Ex’s  

Professional effectiveness: 

Must be comfortable operating from strategic (MOD) level to tactical.

Must be capable of representing DIO's interests with a wide variety of external agencies.

Powers of Communication:

Essential. Must be comfortable briefing and engaging across the rank spectrum.

Initiative:

High. The role requires the ability to identify key touch points across a broad range of international, military and civilian agencies to maximise income from FF use of MOD DTE

Judgement:

High. Must be able to think on feet and react to high tempo situations, being cognisant of other Nationality sensitivities.

Military Quals:

SA(A)(90) - Essential when acting as SQEP LO.

Experience in range management and conducting training.

Knowledge of BAMS advantageous.

Any (European) language will be a definite advantage.

Previous experience is important in understanding trg and development issues.
