Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Cpl (RAFP) to serve as JNCO Security at RAF Digby on Full Time Reserve Service (HC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date being 1st June 2022 (or earlier, depending upon candidate status).

As JNCO Security, you will be expected to have a working knowledge of security in accordance with JSP 440. Additionally, you will be PS-Q or willing to undergo PS training at DSPG Southwick Park. You will be part of a small security team and will be responsible to the Sy Sect SNCO for the provision of advice and assistance regarding all aspects of security within the unit. On completion of in-house training you will be fully conversant with all IT systems within the unit and have a working knowledge of CIS security policies, regulations and guidelines. You will have a rotational on-call commitment. 

The responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive: 

  • Assist with the implementation of an effective security education programme and employment of security procedures.
  • Assist in the compilation of local security orders.
  • Day to day management and maintenance of all security furniture and associated duplicate keys and MCL/ILS combinations.
  • Conduct Sy investigations as required.
  • Report/investigate all IT security breaches or incidents.
  • Maintenance of IT asset registers.
  • Transfer and control of data between lower/higher Classified IT systems and carrying out interrogation of media prior to release.
  • Monitor the serviceability and use of CCTV, IDS, PIDS and Automated Access Control Systems.
  • Day-to-day management of ongoing security projects.
  • Perform regular security health checks of areas processing Classified information.
  • Must either have been, or currently be, a Cpl RAF Police or SAC/A/Cpl RAF Police eligible for promotion to Cpl in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board. If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for the post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge and experience to be considered by the promotion board.
  • Hold or be willing to undergo the UK Security Vetting procedure to gain a DV Security Clearance and be able to obtain a PAG personnel Security Clearance.
  • RAFP Q-PS or willing to complete a course to gain the RAFP Protective Security (PS) Qualification.
•    To have been employed on PS and Cyber duties within the last 3 years.
•    To hold the following civilian accredited qualifications:
-    Certified Information Systems Lead Auditor ISO 27001
-    ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
-    Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)

The closing date for applications is 4th February 2022 and interviews (unless prom board required) will take place week commencing 22nd February 2022.     

Applicant Considerations. Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service. 

The appointment is on FTRS (HC) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 16 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of up to 5 years. 

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis. 

Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment. Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Branch & Trade Advisor in order to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview. 

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply but will only be accepted into RAFR service if an appropriate branch/trade sponsor can be identified to sponsor the applicant.  Branch/trade sponsor approval must be agreed before the interview. 

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying. 

Ex- service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP3391 (Vol3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).      

Pension Issues. Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT). Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

Annual Salary and Leave. Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760 

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC/HC) TCoS are eligible to Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB

Should a candidate be selected who has been out of the Service greater than 5 years, the recruitment pack will not be despatched until the Bespoke Training Form has been completed and endorsed by HQ 22 Trg Gp (Director General Training) and SO1 Reserves Support.
