Primary purpose:

The primary purpose of the A&P function is delivered by two SO2s, one in HMNB(P) for SURFLOT-East and one in HMNB(D) for SURFLOT-West, who are SURFLOT’s intelligent customer. They oversee and assess; the Service Provider’s (SP) performance through their delivery and quality of engineering support at the waterfront in the UK and overseas, from wherever it originates, and assessing individual Class (Devonport - T23, LPD and HM)  availabuility, reliability, maintenance and quality issues at the platform, system and equipment level..

Secondary purpose:

SO2 A&P is to support Cdr FGen Eng Spt in the coordination of engineering support to units within the Devonport Area of Responsibility (SURFLOT West).

SO2 A&P primary responsibilities will be:

a.    In Service Capability Management. Co-ordination and leadership duties on behalf of Capt E for the Availability Working Groups (AWG) of T23, LPD and HM. As the secretary to thje AWG, they lead and coordinate the management of stakeholders activity and actions to inform strategic decision making on resource and funding at each In-Service Capability Management Board (ISCMB).

b.    Availability and Performance. Liaison with NCHQ, DE&S Naval Surface Ship, Platform System and Equipment Approval Authorities for the prioritisation of resource and activity to improve the availability and performance of front-line units.

c.    SURFLOT East/West liaison. Work collaboratively with SO2 A&S in SURFLOT East to ensure coherency of standards and availability management across all Classes

SO2 A&P secondary responsibilities are:

a.    Common Support Model (CSM). Attend platform/equipment management forums as required under the CSM to monitor and inform A&P of the SP. 

b.    Capability Insertion Working Groups. Stand in or support the FGen Engineering Support SO2 as required for Capability Management, Capability Insertion and high priority safety related change proposals, supporting relevant DDH staff officers when required.

c.    FGen Engineering Support. Stand in or support the FGen Engineering Support SO2 as required to provide engineering advice and support to the SURFLOT FGen Cell.

d.    Divisional. Provide divisional care for subordinates within the E-Div as required. 

e.    Engineering Assurance. Provide enhanced support to the SURFLOT Engineering Assurance teams, as directed by Cdr FGen Eng Spt.

Must be a serving Regular or Maritime Reserve OF3  or Ex-Regular OF3 of ANY specialisation.

Branch: Engineering (ME GS preferred or WE GS).

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
