Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the TMG VLE MAN is to provide Governance and Management support to Initial Training Phase 1 units in the creation and maintenance of the Naval Service VLE pages, in support of Navy HQ strategy, including the Maritime Innovation Training Strategy.  In addition to their primary purpose, TMG VLE MAN is to:

  • ·        Support RN Cat manager in establishing a sustainable structure for TMG DLE cell. 
  • ·        Support modernisation of the Defence Learning Environment. 
  • ·        Will be responsible for supporting the creation and development of VLE pages across the Maritime Warfare School, in support of Navy Command HQ strategy. 
  • ·        Will give advice and guidance to course administrators and trainers, to best exploit training solutions through the VLE

The post holder shall note that these approved TORs seek to describe the extent of the role and its responsibilities, as far as practicable. Ultimately, however, it is up to the individual to achieve the job purpose using their leadership, professional ability and management skills. Thus, these TORs should not be seen as prescriptive and post holders are expected to exercise initiative and be innovative, which may require operating outside their TORs. In these circumstances post holders are not to be constrained by their TORs in achieving success but must ensure that their line manager and others are kept informed as appropriate.

Responsibility 

1.  Support the RN Category manager in establishing a sustainable TMG Dell function and support modernisation of the DLE. 

2.  Give VLE advice and guidance to Course Designers, Course Administrators and Trainers, liaising with CfTN where appropriate.   

3.  Create appropriate new Sub-Categories within the MWS area, managing user permissions and the category area.  Create areas specific to apprenticeship qualifications and the support of those qualifications. 

4. Ensure that the Alfresco area is managed appropriately.  Ensure Mahara and all elements of the e-portfolio system are supported.   

5. Manage the Turnitin allocation of licences and Turnitin VLE user roles, ensuring Turnitin assignments are managed correctly.  

Must be an OF2 of ANY specialisation. OF1 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered. 

OF3 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and normally wear the rank of OF2.

Experience: 

Experience of chairing stakeholder meetings and tracking actions. 

Experience of providing training, development and support to others. 

Experience of a system-based approach to learning, learning pedagogy and learning technologies (such as Moodle). 

 

Technical: 

Defence VLE functionality training up to Sub-Category Manager level (can be achieved in post). 

Computer literacy, to include Microsoft Office products and Sharepoint. 

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

The start date will be ASAP

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
