Vacancy detail

This post is being formed to meet mandated requirements with the establishment of an in-house admissibility capability. The postholder will work with SO2 Ops SC Sec in the following areas:
1. Advise on the admissibility of SCs and the appropriate Deciding Bodies (DBs), and subsequently oversee the production, redaction and distribution of formal Admissibility Decision and DB Appointment Letters.
2. Liaison with SO2 Legal, SO1 Fasttrack, SO1 SC APC and OIC SCIT to inform the advice to SO1 Ops over Admissibility and at DLAB, including availability and suitability of the use of in-house Investigation, VERR DB and APC capability.
3. Advise/discuss with Specified Officers (SOs) and DBs the possibilities of informal resolution including the use of the Army Mediation Service.
4. Advise 1*/2* HA staff, as well as units, on actual and potential complaints, best practice, and procedures.
5. Joint lead SO2 responsible for oversight of the SC end to end process for all formal complaints IAW JSP 831 and 763.
6. Authority for the tasking of the Service Complaint Investigations Team (SCIT) to appropriate investigations.
7. Deliver SC presentations to key command/career course as required.
8. Line Manage/Reporting Officer to 1 x D civilian.
The successful applicant will have effective organisational skills as well as being comfortable with challenging timeline setting and enforcement and be able to co-ordinate multiple threads of an SC into a coherent process.
Inquisitive, fair and independently mind the successful applicant must be interested in ensuring just and equitable treatment is afforded to all parties involved in the SC process. They must be able to remain impartial, discreet and be willing to challenge those displaying a lack of impartiality.
They must be able to confidently and coherently at 1* level and be able to act in a tenacious and determined manner if personally dealing with challenging COs and Deciding Bodies whilst maintaining a fair, polite and professional manner.
Experience of Service Complaints and JPA desirable but not essential.

This post would suit any competent, conscientious and IT literate Staff Officer, who has an interest in SP welfare. The successful applicant will enjoy working within a friendly and motivated mixed military and civil servant team focussed on the rewarding task of righting wrongs.
Remote working (including post COVID) is supported and enabled with appropriate IT.  Periodic on-site attendance will still be required, but there is flexibility depending on workflow.

Salary Range £47-£56K dependant on background
