An Investigation Officer vacancy has arisen for a Staff Sergeant to conduct investigations into Army Service Complaints. This post is available under Voluntary Employment ex Regular Reserves (VeRR) terms of service and is suited to someone seeking the flexibility of part-time work for up to 88 days pa, potentially as part of a portfolio career. The initial contract will be for 12 months but can be extended in accordance with Reserve Land Forces Regulations.

The post sits within the Service Complaints Investigation Team (SCIT) which is the internal investigative branch of the Army Service Complaints Secretariat, based in Andover. Working primarily from home, the Investigation Officer will conduct impartial factual investigations of Service Complaints submitted by serving or retired Service Personnel, as directed and in accordance with JSP 831 and other extant policy.

Allocation of investigations will be based on factors including rank, experience and availability of the Investigation Officer, and will take into account the ranks of parties involved and the nature of the complaint. On occasion there may be a requirement to work collaboratively with other SCIT investigators as required by OC SCIT.  

The Investigation Officer will be required to maintain a comprehensive record of all interviews, discussions, instructions issued, and actions taken in the course of an investigation, and to provide the Case Manager and DB/AB with regular updates on the progress of the investigation including any identifiable change to the Terms of Reference.  Each investigation should be completed within 30 working days (6 weeks), at the end of which they must provide the DB/AB with a comprehensive investigation report to enable them to reach an informed decision.

Close liaison with OC SCIT on availability and the progress of each investigation is essential to achieve the 6-week deadline. 
The postholder must have served as a Regular OR7 or above, or as an OR6 who has been recommended for promotion.

The succesful candidate will be IT literate, competent and efficient with the ability to prioritise work and deliver within the 30 day (6 week) deadline.

Effective verbal and written skills are essential. Experience working with Teams, Outlook, Word and SharePoint are very desirable.  
An investigative and/or RMP background is useful but not essential as training will be provided on appointment.

Selection filtered to Boarding 
Routine remote working is supported and enabled with appropriate IT. The post is part-time but will require the postholder to deliver within 30 days (6 weeks) on acceptance of an investigation.

ARRG/VERR/ADC Project tasks are not WF authorised positions.   They are a temporary liability created specifically for a task and of a short duration; up to 12 months @ up to 90 RSDs, and therefore boarding and selection for these jobs does not attract substantive promotion or granting of AHR or SUPA.   A JPAN can be rank ranged to facilitate selection in a lower rank than advertised.    However, the intent is to fill the positions in the advertised rank and in only exceptional circumstances will a lower rank be selected to run to board.
