Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Corporal – Squadron Leader (Any) to serve within the HQ Air Inclusion Team, RAF High Wycombe, in a Climate Assessment Support Team (CAST) role. The successful applicant with be employed on VeRR Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 1 Dec 22. Hybrid working may be considered.

Responsible to the SO1 D&I through the SO2 CAST, this role will lead and support the transformation of RAF TLB Unit Assessments through a rolling assurance development programme. Critical to shaping organisational culture and eradicating unacceptable behaviour, applicants can expect to be part of a team yet work autonomously in a dynamic challenging environment. These outcomes will not only directly support the benchmarking of D&I with sS and industry partners but influence RAF and MOD D&I strategic output. A willingness to recognise and utilise the talents of others, regardless of their rank or grade, is vital in this collaborative environment. 

  • Must either have been, or currently be, substantive in the rank of Cpl to Sqn Ldr.
  • Must possess excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with an ability to influence.
  • Must be a team player with palpable collaborative working experience.
  • Must have a strong personal commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • D&I subject matter experience, for example as an Equality Diversity and Inclusion Advisor or as part of an RAF Network.
  • Experience managing and delivering assurance. 
  • Practical experience within a welfare role.
  • Experience in coaching / subordinate development.
  • Project management experience, working with multiple agencies/teams.

A Selection Board will carry out a rigorous selection process for this post, based principally on an applicant’s last 4 appraisal (officers) and last 3 appraisals (aviators).

The closing date for applications is 10 Oct 2022.  Interviews will take place week commencing 31 Oct 2022, unless a promotion board is required. 

Unless already part of the Royal Air Force Reserves (RAFR) the successful applicant will be required to enlist in the RAFR.  The appointment is on VeRR TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 3 years.

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to application.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through QR1027 are ineligible to apply IAW AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should seek advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on any impact reserve service may have on their pensions. Of note attention is drawn the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements e.g., leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance.

Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

Accommodation. Personnel serving on VeRR TCoS are not entitled to service accommodation.
