Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Corporal (Logistics Driver /TG6) to serve as JNCO MT at FS Aldergrove on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 31 July 2023 (or earlier depending on successful candidate circumstances).

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Aldergrove Air Wing ASMT Section. Reporting to the ASMT SNCO to assist with the daily operations and taskings of the ASMT section in order to maintain the operational output of FS Aldergrove. 

Responsibilities include:

a.    Exercise all JNCO responsibilities to the highest of standards.

(i)       As a JNCO, first and foremost, lead and inspire your people in line with the values and ethos of the service. The overarching aim of your tour is to leave your post in a better state than you found it and with those below you aspiring to be in your position.

(ii)       Oversee all activities of subordinate ASMT personnel; providing supervision, direction and leadership as required.

b.    When nominated, deputise and fulfil the responsibilities SNCO ASMT in their absence alongside covering absence of SAC ASMT. 

c.    Ensure that all relevant Engineering Orders are observed and fully implemented within ASMT. 

d.    Daily control, management, supervision and documentation of all Sqn MT vehicles and equipment.

e.    Ensure Sqn MT orders are kept up to date, distributed and signed by F600 holders on the Wing.

f.    Correct archiving of all drivers records inclusive of driver’s hours logbooks using the appropriate unit administration systems.

g.    Providing mandated vehicle familiarisations as required.

h.    The receipt of airfield vehicles, other than those operated by ASMT, due maintenance or inspection.

i.    Monitoring MOD 7765s & MOD 7766 (DIESO) for each Bulk Fuel Carrying Vehicle (BFCV), ensuring each are accurately compiled and that the book and the tank contents are independently checked by the JNCO weekly.

j.    Ensuring that ASMT personnel receive BFIS accounts and are familiar with the system.

k.    The upkeep, management, cleanliness, and replenishment of stock, including F&L in the vehicle Daily Inspection locations.

Must either have been, or currently be, a Corporal (Logistics (Logs (MTD)) or an Air Specialist (Class 1) eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board. If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for a post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge and experience to be considered by the Promotion Board.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

Required competencies,

  • A Full UK driving licence
  • Awareness of the Basic JAMES functions and roles including senior equipment manager and L1 repair manager
  • Awareness and understanding of MOD yellow fleet vehicles.
  • Previous JNCO experience
  • Previous ASMT experience
  • Competent in FSII & Fuel Conductivity checks
  • Driver|DTO Defence Transport Operator
  • MT 600 annotated with driver competencies and currencies

The closing date for applications is 20 March 2023 and interviews (unless prom board required) will take place week commencing 27 March 2023.

Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period up to 31 March 2025.

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis.

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS. 

Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(HC) TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
