Unit Function: JW’s mission is to direct the development, preparation, integration, assurance and analysis to create advantage for the Joint Force.

Position Role: Staff Officer within the JW Exercises Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, refine and execute Tier 2+/Tier 3 Operational level CPXs. Assist with production of scenario, main events/injects lists to meet ex objectives.
  • Act as an exercise planning officer in a four/ five person team in order to achieve the exercise aim/objectives.
  • Provide scenario support to SJFHQ Gp, other national and cross-governmental exercises as requested.
  • Liaise with PTA, STA, OGDs, NGOs, MOD, single service HQs, allies and coalition partners to ensure exercise design requirements are met.
  • Co-ordinate the production of all exercise scenario documentation i.e. directives, synchronisation matrices and scenario campaign plans.
  • Fill a variety of posts within the Exercise Control (EXCON) Cell during Tier 2+ and Tier 3 Exercises (Execute Phase typically 2 weeks).
  • Deputise for Exercise Team SO1 at meetings and exercise planning conferences as required.
  • Provide exercise planning advice to PJHQ and other HQs.

CONSIDERATIONS:

Must be able to deploy on Command Post Exercises around the world for up to 40 days a year. Planning conferences will require additional overseas travel.

Must be a serving Regular or Maritime Reserve OF3 or Ex-Regular OF3  of  WARFARE ANY  specialisation.

This appointment requires an Officer with a sound understanding of Joint and Combined operations at the operational and strategic levels. A previous appointment in the Joint or Exercise Planning environment would be a significant advantage. The need to give frequent briefings to high ranking officers and to have contact with international officers demands a high grade staff officer who can communicate effectively.

Joint Operational Planning Course

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank/rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank/rate or more above or one rank/rate only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank (excluding the advertised Rank of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank/rate then the rank/rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
