Primary Purpose. To act as the course officer for the Advanced ASMD Course. To advise on Air Warfare procedures including the teaching of the relevant principles being especially aware of their application to students’ own ship’s equipment, so that the training objectives approved by NCHQ are met. To act as the ADWAR Point of Contact for the implementation of Sea Ceptor training.

Secondary Purpose. To act as the deputy Course Manager / Officer for the Air Warfare Officers’ course.

SWO AW2 is responsible for:

a.           Instructing courses in Air Warfare tactics, techniques and procedures, current threat and future developments. Courses include CO/XO DC, AWO, PWO, WEO DC, WE/ME WO2s, FC, CPO(AWT), PO(EW), RFA PDO, RNR AD, Adv ASMD, AWO / MarADC, PWO(AV),IWO(C) and IWO AVWAR.

b.           Act as Course Officer for all aspects of the Advanced ASMD Course including supervision, co-ordination and administration of current courses together with future course development proposing improvements and changes when necessary.

d.           Act as deputy Course Officer for all aspects of the Air Warfare Officers' & MarAD Course including supervision, co-ordination and administration of current courses together with future course development proposing improvements and changes when necessary.

e.            Coordinating Air Warfare procedures and doctrine and monitoring their standards within the MWS.

f.           Liaise with AW and EW instructors within MWS to ensure coherency of instruction.

g.          Controlling, monitoring and debriefing Air Warfare and ASMD elements of all MCTS Command Direction Team Training exercises.

h.         Exercise Controller during MCTS Simulator exercises as required.

i.             Staff Captain during PWO and International PWO (IPWO) WTT periods.

j.            Act as Assessing Officer during PWO APSW and RNMW.

k.            MWS AAW Liaison Officer with relevant Navy Command desk officers, FOST(S) SWO Staff and associated warfare Staffs.

l.             Act as an MWS representative at the ASMD Operational Steering Group and POST list meetings.

m.           MWS Liaison Officer with other Services' Air Defence Organisations.

n.           Assisting SWO AW in reviewing the Warfare 1 SCE syllabus at least annually to ensure its currency.

o.           Monitor the tactical application and employment of JTIDS/Link 16 doctrine.

p.            Act as a guest lecturer in Maritime Air Defence as required by the RAF SABM, RAF Boulmer and GBAD section, RSA Larkhill.

q.            To carry out Establishment duties as DCO in HMS COLLINGWOOD as required.

r.             Provide CPD instruction to MWS Staff on all aspects of AW.

s.            To assist SWO AW in recommending the top AWO student for the annual BAE prize to OC WTG.

t.             The delivery of elements of the AW section’s responsibilities, including AWO, FC and other courses.

u.            BPT augment FOST(S) for sea riding / instruction under the Unified Training Workforce system.

Must be a serving Regular or Maritime Reserve OF2 or OF3 or Ex-Regular OF2 or OF3 of PWO specialisation.

The following mandatory training and JPA competences are required for this position

a.         RN PWO and AWO qualified having completed a tour in an Air Defence Destroyer.

b.         To complete Defence Train the Trainer (DTTT) v2 Course.

c.         To complete Defence Information Management Passport.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have there details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

The successful applicant at interview will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank/rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank/rate or more above or one rank/rate only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank (excluding the advertised Rank of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank/rate then the rank/rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
