Vacancy detail

Unit Role: The Bde HQ is to be prepared to deploy, at R2, to any theatre as a Joint, Coalition, NATO or Stand-alone force, to conduct Contingent Military Operations across the full spectrum of conflict.

Position Role: SO3 Avn

Responsibilities:
1. Act as advisor and SME to Bde Comd, COS, SO2 Air and wider Bde Staff on all Bde matters relating to Avn inc the availability, capabilities and employment of Battlefield Helicopters and refining HELQUESTs.
2. Facilitate Avn training for 3 Cdo Bde RM personnel.
3. Act as CHF HQ representative within HQ to maintain and develop a close relationship between Bde and its operationally-organic Commando Avn.
4. Liaise with Air/Avn units/formations iot maintain knowledge of Avn asset capabilities, availability and doctrine.
5. Act as a SME for the tactical employment of Avn to audience levels up to 1*; to champion Avn across Bde and act as POC for CHF, JHC, COMLSG, Cdo units and wider community into Bde HQ.
6. Work in liaison with Bde Tac Dev and CHF Tac Dev to develop and improve TTPs, equipment or capabilities related to Avn.
7. Work in liaison with Bde J4 to maintain and improve equipment related to Avn throughout Bde.
8. Work under Avn TF 2 as an SDO on Ops and Exs.
9. Bde Avn lead for JPR capability.

Domestic Considerations: R2 post (5 days NTM).  Expect 4 months on ex per year, plus operational deployments as necessary. 

Professional Effectiveness: Capable of understanding full spectrum avn operations, particularly in the littoral environment.
Powers of Communication: Briefs senior officers, both written and orally. Recipient will have limited knowledge and experience of Avn-related issues.
Reliability: Trusted to work in isolation and capable of producing OSW and routine staff-work of a high standard, within limited timeframe.
Initiative: Will have autonomy within AOR. Ability to work through and identify capability gaps and act upon findings is a must.

Must be a serving Regular or Maritime Reserve  OF2-OF3  or Ex-Regular OF2-OF3 of FAA P HELO specialisation.

Pre Appt/Deployment Trg:  3 Years experience as a Front Line Aviator with Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) as a Pilot and Operations Officer.  Ideally with experience in LitM Avn.

  • Front Line Aviator: SME platform knowledge of current types highly desirable (Me3/4 or WC)
  • EFSSC or ISSC for RN
  • Underwater Escape Trainer: UET 1 qual. as minimum. Requirement satisfied by the UET 2 (STASS) competency, which must be maintained as a Naval Aviator.
  • PR 350:If unavailable, undertake PR 300 (execution) as interim mitigation.
  • ICSC(M)
  • Amphib Warfare Cse
  • Flt Safety Offr Course: If unavailable, undertake AIR 302 (RN FSC) as interim mitigation. 
  • Jt BM Course: If unavailable, undertake TABM as interim mitigation.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 12 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Start date is ASAP

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank/rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank/rate or more above or one rank/rate only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank (excluding the advertised Rank of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank/rate then the rank/rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
