A vacancy has arisen for a Sergeant Intelligence Analyst to serve as OPAIC R SNCO 1 INSTRUCTOR at the Air Intelligence Wing, Defence School of Intelligence (DSI), Chicksands on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 01 October 2022 or earlier.

If successful, post holders will have the opportunity to work as part of a team delivering fundamental intelligence training to OpAIC(R) trainees during the 11-month course.  Training content includes intelligence fundamentals, analytical techniques, the delivery of intelligence update briefs, the delivery of squadron mission support and a final exercise. 

The post holder will be permanently based at DSI Chicksands, though, on occasion, training may be delivered elsewhere as part of wider flexibility in training and to allow trainees to gain knowledge from site visits. 

The post holder will be responsible to the Officer Commanding OpAIC(R) for: 

  • Delivering training to Phase 2 PTVR trainees to enable them to reach the Role Performance Standard (RPS) and delivery of training in accordance with the current Business Management System (BMS) Part 2.
  • Conducting assessments of trainees to verify compliance with the RPS.
  • Supporting training delivery through relevant managerial/administrative duties in line with AIW Role Terms of Reference.
  • Ensuring compliance with obligations toward supervision and welfare of Phase 2 trainees, in accordance with the DITG Supervisory Care Directive.
  • Supporting Dev/Stds Flt with the management of lesson plans and Learning Specifications for the OpAIC(R), to include any pertinent instructional aids whilst ensuring DSAT compliance.
  • Supporting other training output of AIW as directed by OC AIW.

As Reservist training is primarily conducted at weekends, the post holder will be required to work typically one or 2 weekends per month, with time off granted in lieu. 

Must either have been, or currently be, a Sergeant Intelligence Analyst or a Corporal Intelligence Analyst eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board. 

  • Must hold a current DV (or have held within the past 5 years) or hold adequate nationality/residence and be prepared to undergo Developed Vetting.
  • Must have successfully completed the OpAIC, OpAIC(R) (or its predecessors), hold an equivalent qualification, or have formal UK Military Intelligence training.
  • Must already hold, or be prepared to complete, the Defence Trainer Course (DTC) course.
  • Must be prepared to work one or 2 weekends per month, with time off in lieu, and to undertake detached duty.
      • Knowledge and experience of Operational Intelligence with a working knowledge of current best practices and procedures.
      • Should have sound understanding of UK intelligence architecture and the roles of intelligence organisations across the UK.
      • Experience of managing training and/or course delivery, including the delivery of training exercises and assessments.
      • Knowledge and experience of the Reserve forces.
      • An ability to work manage, support, and develop part-time Reservist trainees who may have limited experience of the Regular RAF.
      • Must hold or be ready to acquire a driving licence for a minibus/light van.

                Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

                The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 16 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 4 years.

                Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis.

                Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment.  Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Branch & Trade Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview.

                Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

                Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen).                 Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

                Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

                Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

                Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC/HC)/ADC TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
