Middle East Levant - Intelligence Analyst
DI is a world-class organisation that supports policy and decision-making at the heart of the Ministry of Defence and the government’s national security community. In DI, our people solve problems, create understanding, and give perspective to the diverse and complex threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. DI is responsible for providing strategic intelligence support to senior decision makers in Defence and wider UK government.
This intelligence analyst role is based in the Defence Intelligence Africa and Middle East Centre (DI AMEC). DI AMEC works against some of the region’s most fast-moving and varied problem sets. The role will allow the analyst to become a subject matter expert on certain countries the Middle East, accessing and analysing sensitive data and assessing complex geo-political, security and military matters. This puts the analyst in a position to deliver expertise and insight that makes a tangible difference to government and Defence policy as well as the safety of our country.
This position is challenging, but incredibly rewarding, working with a mixed military and civilian team that provides critical expertise and insight at the beating heart of UK Defence. As the holder of this post, you will be at the forefront of the defence and national security agenda and will provide insight at the top of the pyramid, including regular briefings to Ministers and Defence Chiefs.
Responsibilities
The role includes, although is not limited to:
- Building subject matter expertise for a specific area of responsibility, maintaining a high level of situational awareness, using all resources available
- Producing DI reports, publications and visual products.
- Delivering and communicate high quality and impactful all-source intelligence assessments (verbal and written) on political, military and security issues to key customers to inform key decision making.
- Working with partners across government, including the wider intelligence community and major government departments
- Engaging with the UK’s allies abroad, including the 5EYES community. This provides opportunity for regular travel.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with a wide spectrum of customers and ensure intelligence output is aligned to their requirements.
Must be an OF3 of any specialisation. OF2 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered.
OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OF3.
Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.
- Must be intelligence trained or have prior experience working in intelligence.
- Must have Developed Vetting.
- Decent understanding of Middle East geo-politics and global issues.
- Previous experience working on Middle Eastern issues.

This role is occasionally required to travel to UK bases (including Molesworth, Wyton and Northwood) to visit and work with both stakeholders and customers. The position holder may also be required to travel overseas, sometimes staying multiple nights away.
The working pattern generally flows from 0900-1700, Monday to Friday. On rare occasions, extended hours and weekend working may be required.
