Vacancy detail

  1. Develop and apply cultural expertise to fully understand regional historical, political, socio-economic and cultural contexts.
  2. Fuse cultural expertise and regional awareness, in order to provide intelligence support to information activities.
  3. Deliver cultural awareness training in support of Operations, and across Defence.
  4. Understand and provide a higher level of cultural competence, comprising deeper and broader knowledge to deal directly with cultural groups.
  5. Support LSOF and Defence planning activity through liaison with mission teams
  6. Deliver cultural expertise to commanders that include recommendations to highlight and mitigate threats.
  7. Assess the atmospheric and inter-personal spectrum of opportunities and threats facing UK and multinational forces.
  8. Develop functional linguistic skills in line with operational lines of effort to facilitate engagement with and understanding of audiences and actors
  9. Conduct CFI and CMI in support of Joint CIMIC Group activities.
  10. Advise commanders up to Divisional level on CIMIC activities, incorporating thematic considerations, whilst liaising and coordinating with key military and non-military actors in the operating environment.
  11. Contribute to products that articulate the Civil Environment Picture IOT develop a Comprehensive Understanding of the Operational Environment (CUOE) to inform the Commander’s decision-making process.

1. Posts in the CIMIC team focus on advising on Civil Military Cooperation and Civil Military Integration at the tactical and operational level and integrating NATOs Cross-Cutting Topics, elements of Human Security and cultural awareness into planning and delivery. Providing support to both UK forces but also building capacity to advise Partner Nation Forces. 

2. Understanding of working within NATO, UN or multinational missions an advantage, as is previous work with Partner Nation Forces and understanding of working with NGOs, the UN cluster system or cross-HMG departments.  

3. Opportunities to deploy overseas on exercises and Short-Term Training Teams / Engagement Teams (STTTs/STETs). 

4. High levels of emotional intelligence, understanding of stakeholder management and engagement soft skills essential. 

5. Act as a thematic conduit for all of Outreach Group’s, Civil Military Co-operation (CIMIC) to both internal and external departments. 

6. Develop Outreach Group’s planning capability in-line with UK and NATO doctrine, but considering lessons learned from international defence allies, governmental departments, think tanks, and academia.
