Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Sergeant (Logs Dvr) to serve as SNCO MT Flt at No 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron RAuxAF located at RAF Wittering, on Part-Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) terms and conditions of service (usually a max 90 days per year), with an initial start date of 4 Jan 22, or earlier if circumstances permit.

The successful applicant will work within the existing MT Flt on the Sqn, which currently constitutes a third of the Sqn capability. The specific responsibilities are:

Instruct lessons on operating safely & effectively by delivering background information on Breakdown Procedures, Accidents and 1000 Series paperwork.

Deliver Vehicle Familiarisation Training on varying vehicle and trailer types, ensuring students are competent to operate alone safely.

Conduct Daily Inspections and fault reporting IAW AESP 201 & 601.

Lead practical on the road Driver Training over various vehicle types. Tailor instruction to student needs, build confidence and develop skills.

Continually mentor students to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Manage Driver’s Hours, ensuring Flight Members understand the importance of Driving Hours and F/MT109s.

Lead by example, set the standard regarding tasks, uniform, and upholding the RAF Ethos and Core Values.

Responsible, in so far as you are able, for ensuring the required ACT & AT days, IRT MOD1 & RAFFT are completed within the current training year.

Furthermore, the post holder will be expected to: 

Work effectively, independently and as part of a team.

Communicate (written, verbal and presentational) effectively.

Attend monthly (occasionally more frequent) Sqn Training Weekends.

Attend the Annual Continuous Training period (15 days) each year.

Participate in Sqn recruitment and engagement events and exercises as necessary.

DVLA Licence Categories C+E and D

Defence General Service Driving Instructor

Defence Transport operator/Manager

Able to communicate effectively at all levels.

Proficiency in the use of IT, particularly MS Office.

Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the Royal Air Force Reserve with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis.

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply but will only be accepted into RAFR service if an appropriate branch/trade sponsor can be identified to sponsor the applicant.  Branch/trade sponsor approval must be agreed before the interview.

Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment. Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Branch & Trade Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview.

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister Services may apply but will only be accepted into RAFR service if an appropriate branch/trade sponsor can be identified to sponsor the applicant. Branch/trade sponsor approval must be agreed before the interview.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a)

Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager. Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment.

Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the Reserve air forces. Unless mobilised there is no entitlement to leave.
