Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a  Warrant Officer RAF PTI or Flight Lieutenant Pers Trg to serve as SO3 Training Delivery  at RAFC Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 30 November 2022 for 3 years. 

SO3 Training and Delivery is directly responsible to OC Training Development Sqn (TDS), in the Learning and Development (L&D) Wing of RAF OTA. With responsibility for delivering the commanders intent with regards to improving the standards and performance levels of staff, the incumbent may work with officer cadets (off cdt’s) in a bespoke manner to understand barriers to learning and improve their growth on mainstream squadrons. The role is an SME post that requires the successful applicant to work autonomously on occasions, cohesively most of the time and be the main consultant on coaching ideology, training development options and a conduit between the RAF Leadership Centre. 

Key responsibilities of the post are: 

  • Provide performance coaching interventions with all staff and selected off cdt’s in either 1:1 or group sessions, aligned to the RAF OTA Learning Philosophy and L&D Wg requirements. 
  • Development of suitable learning material and resources that can be used to signpost individuals and develop a common coaching and mentoring language within RAF OTA (post Defence Training Course). 
  • Design, develop and deliver a culture of learning, where people thrive and constantly strive to be the best they can be. 
  • Using available data, analyse and draw conclusions which enable training delivery stakeholders to make informed decisions and improve the learning journey for students by improving human performance (reports, trend analysis, podcasts, interviews). 
  • Build external relationships with a variety of wider interested parties to ensure phase 1 training methods are at the leading edge of any new research and development ideas, both across Defence and in the wider civilian training delivery sector. 
  • Promote world class training that takes place at RAF OTA and ensure it aligns with RAF initiatives such as ASTRA, PORTAL/HERMES and 1* Pillar intent. 

Additional Duties. The following additional duties are a requirement of the post: 

  • Maintain the Controlled Documents assigned to your post.
  • Conduct staff suitability interviews as required.
  • Carry out Stn Duties as required.

Any other duties that could be expected of an OF2/OR9.

  • Must either have been, or currently be a Flight Lieutenant Pers Trg. 

OR 

  • Must either have been or currently be a RAF Warrant Officer RAF PTI. 

OR

  • RAF PTI Warrant Officer who have already passed an OASC Commissioning Suitability Interview may be considered eligible in accordance with AP3392 Vol 7 Part 1 and Reserves Administrative Instruction 20.

OR

  • Must either have been or currently be a Flight Sergeant RAF PTI must meet the promotion eligibility and specifications to be considered for the post. This is in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board.

If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for a post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge and experience to be considered by the Promotion Board. 

  • Varied experiences of coaching across many different areas.
  • JPA Competencies DTC (or equivalent).
  • Experience of Course Design.
  • Experience of Course Management including Quality Assurance.
  • Experience of working with external agencies inc Universities and Clubs 
  • Experience of Phase 1 Trg delivery.
  • Relevant Coaching and/or Mentoring qualifications/expertise.
  • MSc in Performance Coaching/Executive Coaching.

The closing date for applications is 31 August 2022. Interviews will take place week commencing 05 September 2022, unless a Promotion Board is required.

Unless already commissioned or enlisted in the Royal Air Force the successful applicant will be required to be commissioned or enlisted in the Royal Air Force Reserves with a liability for call-out for permanent service. 

The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 3 years. 

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case-by-case basis. 

Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment.  Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Professions Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview. 

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister Services may apply but will only be accepted into the Royal Air Force Reserves if an appropriate Professions advisor can be identified to sponsor the applicant. The relevant Profession’s advisor approval must be agreed before the interview. 

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying. 

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a). 

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant. 

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS. 

 Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage. 

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required). 

Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC/HC)/ADC TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
