Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Corporal (Gen Tech (M)) to serve as JNCO Support Engineering Section at MoD St Athan on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date being 14th March 2022 (or earlier, depending upon candidate status).

This post is currently located in an establishment that is part of the Defence Technical Training Change Programme; therefore, it is likely to be subject to relocation to an alternative MOD site by late 2023.  Under current plans the preferred site for Defence Technical training is MOD Cosford.

As the JNCO SES you will be responsible for the supervision of SES (GTM) and the completion of all associated tasking, to include maintenance, modification and repair of Airfield Support Equipment (ASE), to include Mechanical Transport (MT) and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) as well as Ground Training Aids specific to the training environment. You will be specifically responsible for:

•    Maintaining all relevant maintenance and/or repair documentation.
•    Ensuring the maintenance, modification and rectification is properly controlled and maintained via JAMES control systems and GTA/Racking Maintenance Databases.
•    Maintenance records and safety standards in accordance with associated policy and equipment publications.
•    Complying with Health & Safety procedures, fire regulations, Unit Quality Policy and other relevant regulations.
•    Maintaining a clean and safe working environment whilst controlling Fuel and Lubricants within own work area.
•    Preparing equipment for 2nd/3rd/4th line maintenance.
•    Developing and mentoring those under your command.
•    Adopt the full responsibilities of the SNCO SES in their absence.

•    Must either have been, or currently be, a Cpl (Gen Tech Mech) or SAC(T) (Gen Tech Mech) who is eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board.
•    If legacy Trade Group 5 Gen Mech GSE must have successfully completed assimilation training, been awarded X500 and gained sufficient experience on MT to allow a Vehicle Inspection ‘Q’ annotation to be gained if not already held.
•    If legacy Trade Group 6 MT Fitter must have successfully completed assimilation training, been awarded X500 and gained sufficient experience to be able to manage and supervise the maintenance and repair of GSE.
•    Must hold a clean UK driving licence.

The following trade specific qualifications would be desirable, but development training can be given if not held:

•    Q-GM-V-INSP.
•    Q-MT-RBT1.
•    Q-GM-MAN-CATS.
•    Q-D-GS Module 1.
•    Q-D-H.
•    Q-D-H(A).
•    Q-D-MATT.
•    JAMES Leading Maintainer.

Applicant Considerations. Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service. 

The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 16 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 2 years (or up to 31st March 2024 if commitment commences after 1st April 2022). 

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis. 

Regular Service Applicants. Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying. 

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

Pension Issues. Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage. 

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT)

Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required). 

Annual Salary and Leave. Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS (HC) TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
