This is an exciting opportunity to fill a new role within a newly established Defence Intelligence (DI) Reserve Sub-Unit based at UKStratCom Chicksands on a 2-year FTRS Limited Commitment contract. The Reserve Sub-Unit provides a mechanism to retain SQEP specialist Intelligence DI operators who leave their respective Service, thus adding resilience to DI. The successful candidate requires recent and expansive specialist Intelligence experience, emotional intelligence, empathy, and people skills to undertake this highly rewarding role. Initially the role will be focussed with providing mutual support to the Permanent Staff Admin Officer to develop the sub-unit’s vision, concept of employment and integration with DI operational sub-units.
During the Sub-Unit’s transition to Full Operating Capability, expected during FY 2028/2029, the PSI role will migrate to being responsible for more traditional PSI activities, such as overseeing, managing and maintaining Reservists’ specialised trade skills and the coordination of other routine and ad hoc training. In this activity the role will work alongside the existing parent-unit J7 Branch to ensure coherence with the Regular cohort of personnel so that Reservists can be seamlessly integrated to deliver critical specialist Intelligence output to Defence.
Qualifying applicants will be eligible for Recruitment and Retention Payments (Special Intelligence).
Responsibilities
The role includes, although is not limited to, the following:
- Day to day supervision, administration and coordination of the specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit.
- Deputy Project Manager for the implementation of the specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit.
- Maintain specialist Intelligence DI Reserve personnel discipline and standards.
- Maintain/manage specialised trade skills and coordinate provision of training to personnel in the specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit.
- Provide advice, guidance and mentorship to specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit Personnel.
- Deputise for the specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit PSAO in their absence.
- BPT support ad hoc short notice taskings, training tasks or deployments away from home base as required.
- Ensure compliance with RIPA and other government frameworks.
Accountability:
The PSI will be accountable to the PSAO, specialist Intelligence DI Reserve Sub-Unit.
Authority:
Authorities and Line Management responsibilities.
- Must have served with the Regular Forces or be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces with existing specialist Intelligence DI
- Must be RN, Army, RAF or RM of OR7 Rank of any Arm / Service / Specialisation / Profession / Trade.
- OR6 Rank applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent SJAR will be considered.
- Must hold or be able to hold a Developed Vetting (DV).
- Must possess a full driving Licence.
- Knowledge of Reserve (specifically Part-Time Volunteer Reserve) policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and experience of Reserve (specifically Part-Time Volunteer Reserve) employment, mandatory training and mobilisation processes.
- Recent Service on a DI specialist Intelligence Force Element.
TaCoS must be established first. Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift, with eligible applicants having their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange an interview.
Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the appropriate Reserves Career Management Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly. Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up the appointment.

- The role would predominantly require working Mon - Fri at UK Strategic Command, Ad hoc short-term taskings away from Chicksands may be required.
