SO2 J9 Media and Communications (21157)

Position Role: 

Plan and coordinate J9 Media support to both the SJC Operations Staff enabling, and the SP delivering, BAU and Defence crisis management support. 

Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate the administration and planning of SJC Operations communications, working with the RPoCs/JMCs, sS comms teams and DDC.
2. In liaison with SJC Operations J35, DDC and JMCs, identify future media issues and opportunities and exploit as appropriate.
3. Deliver media output for SJC Operations through engagement across HQ, including planning, content capture, clearance and press releases.
4. Support J7 on Media Training and continuous improvement activity, and ensure that J7’s own output is up to date with J9 media content.
5. Provide written and verbal briefs on media and communications to Comd Gp SJC and SJC Operations up to 3* level.
6. Update HQ activity and maintain relationships across the wider Defence comms community, and manage SJC Operations own content.
7. Maintain Operational Record Keeping of J9 Media activity on SJC Operations activity and ensure J9 Media SOPs are accurate and up to date.
8. Be prepared to support all other pillars across SJC Operations as required.

SJC Operations is a joint HQ, where the 3 Services need to be reflected across the functional pillars.

DCR&S L3 - Attended once in post.

ICSC(L) -Formal Staff Training at OF3 level essential.

Joint Media Practitioners Course - Formal Media and communications training essential.

Media Field Essential

Previous experience working in an Operational/ Joint Headquarters.

Fully conversant with a HQ/Staff environment.

Experience briefing 1* and above in a complex media and stakeholder environment.

Operational experience in a media ops role highly desirable.

JOPC - Can be attended on arrival.

Domestic Considerations:

SJC Operations is located in Montgomery House, Aldershot Garrison. Normal working hours apply during BaU with an OOH Duty Roster. This can move to extended evening/weekend working and ultimately 24/7 activation as the Op tempo dictates. WFH is possible by exception, notwithstanding requirements of Op tempo and access to secure CIS.

Routine travel required to conduct specified C2, support, exploitation and training tasks in support of security, resilience and UK Ops at locations across the UK as required.

OF1-3 are required to undertake weeklong OOH Duty periods IAW HQ Duty rota (after first 8 weeks in post). The Duty Officer must always be contactable throughout the tour of duty and must be able to establish MODNet connectivity within 30 mins. If required, they must be able to return to Montgomery House within 60 mins.
