Vacancy detail

Subject to formal establishment amendment, a vacancy may arise for a Flight Sergeant (Any Trade) to serve as FS Learning Support Mentor (Central / North) at RAF Waddington on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 04 April 2022.

This is an exciting opportunity to help SP face learning challenges and reach their full potential.

In Apr 22, Accreditation and Education Wg, 22 Gp, will establish an innovative Learning Support Team consisting of 6 x Learning Support Mentors (LSMs). LSMs will play a crucial role in the RAF’s new ‘hub and spoke’ model of support for SpLD / neurodiversity issues and for the wider RAF training system. LSMs will identify, develop and deliver bespoke one-to-one and small group support to trainees and SP in areas such as study skills, time management & organisation, literacy and numeracy.

LSMs will have the opportunity to work with the very latest SpLD related technology and to develop positive and supportive mentoring relationships with SP who require extra support in their RAF training. Post incumbents will possess a pro-active and enthusiastic attitude and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to subordinate development throughout their career.

If the incumbent does not currently hold SpLD and coaching / mentoring qualifications, training will be provided.  However, the individual will be expected to become fully qualified within 12 months of start date.

Although the successful candidate will be located at RAF Waddington and have opportunity to work flexibly, there will be a requirement for regular travel throughout the UK, particularly within the Central / Northern region.

  • Advise training and line management staff of possible remediation and support strategies on an individual basis through workplace visits.

If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for a post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge and experience to be considered by the Promotion Board.
