Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for an SO2 International Engagement within the Permanent Joint Headquarters, Northwood, on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TaCoS), with an anticipated proposed start date of 1 May 2026, or earlier if possible.
Task requirements: SO2 J1/J4/Med International Engagement is a key role at the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood, starting on 1 May 2026. The role offers the chance to lead and coordinate international engagement across NATO and allied forces, focusing on personnel, logistics and medical support. You will be instrumental in building vital partnerships, identifying shared support opportunities, and facilitating key engagement activities across the J1/J4/Med and wider support community. With a commitment length of 36 months, this full-time reserve role is open to personnel from the Army, RAF, and Navy with Joint Logistics experience.
Responsibilities:
2. Establish a relationship with all US COCOM J1/J4/Med staff and coordinate wider engagement.
3. Facilitate and secretariat all J1/J4/Med 1* FVEYS engagement.
4. Capture, coordinate, cohere and share operational level international engagement activity for the People, Medical and Support functions.
5. On behalf of ACOS J1/4/Med, coordinate all J1/J4/Med engagement with NATO, principally Joint Support and Enabling Command, Joint Force Commands and Joint Logistics Support Groups.
6. Identify opportunities for shared support with international partners.
7. Support the development of a Logistics Common Operations Picture for PJHQ, interacting with UK organisations and international partners to identify opportunities.
8. Cohere and coordinate all visits of external partners to PJHQ J1/J4/Med. Cohere and coordinate PJHQ J1/J4/Med attendance on NATO and Multinational events and planning conferences.
PJHQ:
PJHQ is the UK Ministry of Defence's operational-level military headquarters located at Northwood in London and is responsible for planning and executing joint military operations in various regions around the world on behalf of the UK government.
PJHQ coordinates and directs joint military operations involving the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and it works closely with other NATO and allied military headquarters.
It plays a crucial role in ensuring that the UK's military forces are ready and able to respond to a wide range of security challenges, from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to combat operations. PJHQ also liaises with other government departments, international partners, and non-governmental organisations to coordinate military efforts in support of broader national and international objectives.
Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

The minimum medical standard for this role is Medical Limited Deployment (MLD).
An incumbent not residing in the vicinity of Northwood Headquarters will be required to remain in the local area/available at short notice for protracted periods when operational requirements dictate. BPT deploy at short notice for contract SORs across PJHQ JOAs.
The appointed officer is authorised to claim travel and subsistence and to have access to service accommodation, for assigned exercises and associated meetings when remote conferencing is not practicable; dependent on agreed committed TaCoS.
Other Information:
Regular Service Applicants. Personnel currently serving in the Regular Services should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.
Admin Discharge. Subject to sS policies, applicants may be rejected.
Pension Issues. Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Transition between TaCoS. Personnel taking this appointment from other TaCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TaCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TaCoS.
Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager. Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.
Annual Training / Fitness / Medical / Dental. Subject to sS policies
Annual Salary and Leave. Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published sS Regulations JSP 754. Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.
Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS TaCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates subject to sS policies.
