This is a Volunteer Reserve position in a Nationally Recruited Unit.

506 STRE (Water Infra) is a reservist specialist team (sub-unit), in 65 Wks Gp RE, 170 Infra Sp. They undertake a variety of tasks, with a focus on Water Infrastructure including consultancy, design, maintenance and CNI advice.  This covers all aspects of the Water industry across Flood Risk Management, Potable Water and Sewage Treatment.

506 STRE provides professional, innovative and cost-effective infrastructure engineering support which is responsive to clients' needs, utilising the specialist skills, knowledge and experience of the team members gained through their highly diverse civilian employment.

As sub-Unit Team Warrant Officer you will:

  • Provide administration of the team, in particular acting as a point of contact and distributing information on training using diverse methods of communication to ensure the team are as informed as possible.
  • Assist where necessary with other administration – for example with MS work, record-keeping and G4 activities.
  • Maintain a strong presence within the team and look after the welfare concerns of the team, being both the senior soldier representative to the OC and officers, but also ensuring that orders from the COC are carried out efficiently and effectively, and provide that senior soldier advice to all, from juniors, SNCOs, and officers
  • Actively participate in the team management, attending occasional team management meetings (usually on VTC or telephone)
  • General oversight of team activities, discipline, and policy compliance in all matters
  • Lead on the planning and organisation of at least one activity / training event annually
  • On exercise – manage and control daily work routine of the team
  • On exercise – ensure high standards are maintained within the team, including welfare and personal standards
  • On exercise – act as primary Health and Safety advisor to the OC, and also liaison with local contacts
  • Link into the regular teams and unit HQ to facilitate good communications and to help identify opportunities in all directions
  • Strong Communicator, both electronic and in person
  • Experience of soldier career management
  • Health & Safety management knowledge and/or formal qualification
  • Familiarity with MS
  • Familiarity with OSW
  • Familiarity with civil engineering and project management, in either civilian or military environments
  • SQEP within any or multiple of the following will be helpful: civil, mechanical and/or structural engineering, CAD, project management, geology, utilities (power/water), technical and domestic accommodation, other infrastructure disciplines
  • experience working within hybrid units
  • RE cap-badge preferred, or willingness to transfer
  • Previous Clerk of Works (Construction), Military Plant Foreman, (or civilian equivalents) experience
  • Project management experience
  • Instructor level in one of several of the following: one form of AT, one MATTs topic, ETL or PT
