Primary Purpose.

The LS(WS)SSM will be employed in VERACITY, THRASHER, and ALERT Command Team Trainers within the Faslane Submarine Command Team Trainer (FASSCTT) department.  The rating will be directly responsible to the CPO(WS)SSM.
 

Secondary Purposes.

The secondary purposes of LS(WS)SSM are:
a.    The LS(WS)SSM is to assist the CPO(WS)SSM or CPO(WS)TSM in support of SMCC as directed
b.     The LS(WS)SSM in is responsible for the preparation for all training within the SCTTs. 
c.    To Supervise and maintain all FOST(SM) WSEL equipment IAW WSEL log schedule.
d.    To conduct Duty Naval Base Supervisor in Naval Base Clyde as required
e.    Ensure that the simulators are fully secured IAW FOST(SM) Security regulations on completion of training.

Principal Tasks

In Support of the Primary and Secondary Purposes.
a.     To maintain own professional knowledge at RPS level.
b.     To maintain an accurate sonar picture on the Sonar Simulation desk within the SCTTs via the Warship Signature Database in support of the training aim.
c.     To assist the CPO(WS)SSM/TSM with the co-ordination and supervision of all subordinate rates within the SCTT.
d.     Act as Sonar Controller in SCTTs support of career courses and SMCC.
e.     Ensure that SCTTs are fully prepared for training.
f.     To ensure that the SCTTs are fully secured on completion of training.
g.     Conduct VERACITY and THRASHER daily user checks and manage the defect reporting prior to a training period
h.     To report to the CPO(SSM) at 0800 and 1300 daily and inform him of the state of attendance of the Sonar Department.
i.    To prepare and participate in SMCC Command Briefs as directed by SMCC CO
j.    Assist the CPO(WS)SSM in the training of all subordinate rates, acting as Task Book co-ordinator






Must be an OR4 of ANY WS(SSM) preferred specialisation. OR2 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent SJAR will be considered. 

OR6 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and normally wear the rank of OR4.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.


LS(WS)SSM is to have previously completed a sea assignment as an OR4 onboard a submarine and received a SJAR recommend for the FOST SM training environment. The following competencies are aligned to this position:
   

a.    SM/AB(WS)SSM CAREER (UP610QJN).
b.    SM/NARROWBAND OPERATOR (UP616QNT).
c.    SM/LS(WS)SSM CAREER (UP11QNT).
d.    WATER SAFETY EQUIPMENT MAINTAINER/SUPERVISOR (SEA 113). 
e.    PROFESSIONAL RPS FOR LH(WS)SSM.
f.    MISCELLANEOUS/LEADING RATES LEADERSHIP COURSE (RNLA102). 


Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

This position will attract Retention and Recruitment Pay-SM

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rate or more above or one rate only below the advertised rate. Applicants one rate below may be employed in the acting higher rate (excluding the advertised rate of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rate then the rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 Permanently Unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.

Ex-Regular Reserves other ranks of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however will have to transfer to the RFR and conduct a period of Marinisation if they are selected as the preferred candidate.
