Task requirements:  

This is a superb opportunity to fill a SO2 role on ADC, VTOD, PTVR or VERR as the SO2 Logistics Plans in Joint Force Training, working in a dynamic Joint HQ for up to 70 RSD’s.

SO2 Log Plans is a new enduring role required to plan and coordinate discrete elements of exercises through liaison with various organisations and HQs. Write/Review various exercise planning documents as required Attend and contribute to prioritised Northwood, UK and on occasion overseas based exercise planning events. 

Responsibilities:

  • Joint Force Training covers Tier 2+ and 3 Combined/Joint Task Force-level collective training development; Tier 3 training prepares a Combined/Joint Task Force for operational employment or a Permanent Joint Operating Base (PJOB) for an operational role. It may be conducted in combined or joint contexts and on a UK, Joint Expeditionary Force, NATO, EU or Coalition Partner framework basis.
  • Team 3 are predominantly focused on the NATO Exercise AGILE DEFENDER 24 (AD24) involving Strategic Base Out loading (SBO), Reserve Forces and the National Defence Plan.
  • The candidate will:
  • Act as an exercise planning officer in a team in order to achieve the exercise aim/objectives.
  • Provide scenario support to SJFHQ Gp, other national and cross-governmental exercises as requested and directed by Defence Exercise Programme.
  • Liaise with PTA, STA, OGDs, NGOs, MOD, single service HQs, allies and coalition partners to ensure exercise design requirements are met.
  • Co-ordinate the production of all exercise scenario documentation i.e. directives, synchronisation matrices and scenario campaign plans.
  • Fill a variety of posts within the Exercise Control (EXCON) Cell during Tier 2+ and Tier 3 Exercises (Execute Phase typically 2 weeks).
  • Provide exercise planning advice to PJHQ and other HQs

Directorate of Joint Warfare sits within Joint Force Development within UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom). The vision of Joint Force Development is to be the thought-leadership engine that gives UK Defence the edge on a global stage.  The role of the Directorate of Joint Warfare is to ensure that the Joint Force is ready for operations through operational level force development, military exercises, contingency reporting, and lessons learnt. 

Must be an OF3 of any specialisation.

OF2 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

The applicant will be supporting a regular Joint HQ and will be able to work remotely with the expectation of some infrequent attendance at HQ Northwood where required. The applicant will be expected to work for one day a week on average during the working week.

The applicant will be expected to work on some specific dates on Ex Agile Defender 24; 2-4 weeks between in Feb-May 24. Actual dates are TBC.

 

The appointed officer is authorised to claim travel and subsistence and to have access to service accommodation for assigned exercises and associated meetings when remote conferencing is not practicable, as per TaCoS.
