Preamble

Duty Operations Officer (DOps) is responsible to the SO2 Operations (SO2 OPS) for the safe and effective execution of the FOST(S) Weekly Practice Programme (WPP).

Superiors

Accountability. DOPS is accountable to SO2 OPS for their principal and secondary tasks.  SO2 OPS will act as your 1RO and FAVO the 2RO for reporting puposes.

Principle Tasks

To act as a day / night watchkeeper in a watch bill of 1 in 5 (or in extremis 1 in 4 for a limited period), which includes traditional leave periods and Bank Holidays, whilst running the output of FOST (S) Operations Room.

DOps’s primary purpose is to manage the safe delivery the current WPP, ensuring the effective programming of units under FOST(S) TACON and activities in the South Coast Exercise Areas (SCXAs).

To promulgate details of naval firings (GUNFACTS) and submarine activities (SUBFACTS).

The management of all enabling functions (boats, helicopters and motor transport) in order to meet the staff movements to deliver the WPP.

To maintain situational awareness of all METS issues affecting units under FOST(S) OPCON and to brief the chain of command accordingly.

To collate FOST, Capt (S) and CST/CMST signal files.

To supervise DOpsA, ensuring their on-watch training and maintenance of OC.

Maintain a permanent listening watch on VHF Channel 74 and outside normal working hours, Air OPS circuits (Plymouth Air Safety and Mil Guard (243.0MHz).

To compile and deliver Thursday War Briefs and Ops Briefs as required.

To control silent hours access to Grenville Block and to carry out security rounds of both Grenville and Raleigh Blocks.

Maintain OPS within the DOps role and conduct on watch training during silent hours.

Secondary Tasks

To coordinate staff transfers in conjunction with Air Ops, SERCO, Motor Transport and any other assets where appropriate.

To coordinate amendments to training and support assets within the current week, making full use of specialist organisations; seeking advice as necessary.

Act as Divisional Officer for allocated DOpsA.

 

Must be an OR9, or OF2 of ANY WARFARE specialisation.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Must hold a Full driving licence


Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

NB: Where the Anticipated Start date has already passed, the start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. 

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
