Preamble

1. Fleet Operational Sea Training (FOST) is responsible for training all units of the Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) to meet the levels of readiness and the performance standards required by the Fleet Commander. FOST also provides Operational Sea Training (OST) for both NATO and non-NATO nations as required.

2. The WE Planner is a post tasked with the planning the WE Seatrack and Longcast to support and co-ordinate training of allocated Force Elements to reach Fleet Readiness and Performance Standards. This embraces all training from Pre-OST (SARC), through Core OST and onto Continuation Training (CT) thereafter.

Primary Purposes

3. To support SWEO to FOST.

4. To programme and resource the conduct of Weapon Engineering SARC and CT in RN ships and Core OST in Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, RN ships and International warships.

5. To programme and resource Weapon Engineering SARC, core OST and CT in warships and auxiliaries, as required by SWEO to FOST, to facilitate the delivery of directed objectives.

6. Ensure RN and visiting International warships are supported with appropriate staff IAW training directives issued by Fleet.

7. Planning and co ordination of manpower resources to enable allocated force elements to reach fleet readiness, Pre OST and CT.

8. To organise all aspects of the deployment of personnel in their area of responsibility to meet sea riding commitments as detailed.

9. To liaise with respective phase officers, DOP’s, DSPROGO and WAM to ensure that all missed or repeated serials are re programmed.

10. Prepare, plan and execute comprehensive sea tracks with a 6 week outlook to enable staff officers full programme visibility.

11. Maintain inter desk liaison with all FOST planners.

Must be a serving Regular or Maritime Reserve OR6-OR7  or Ex-Regular OR6-OR7   of  ETWE ANY specialisation.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

NB: Where the Anticipated Start date has already passed, the start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank/rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank/rate or more above or one rank/rate only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank (excluding the advertised Rank of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank/rate then the rank/rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however Ex-Regular or Volunteer Reserve Officers and Volunteer Reserve Other Ranks will only be accepted if they are FIRST accepted into the RNR or RMR and only if an appropriate specialisation sponsor can be identified to sponsor the applicant. Ex-Regular Other Ranks will be accepted but will have to transfer to the RFR.
