Vacancy detail

Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for a OR8 - OF3 to serve as SO2 DXP at HEADQUARTERS NORTHWOOD on RSD, ADC or VERR Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 1 Feb 22 or ASAP after this date.

Unit Function

JW’s mission is to direct the development, preparation, integration, assurance and analysis, to create advantage for the Joint Force.

Directorate Joint Warfare sits within Joint Force Development within UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom). The vision of Joint Force Development is to be the thought-leadership engine that gives UK Defence the edge on a global stage.  The role of Directorate Joint Warfare is to ensure that the Joint Force is ready for operations through operational level force development, military exercises, contingency reporting and lessons learnt. 

Position Role

Act as deputy desk officer for the management of the DXP with Joint Warfare.

The DXP is not just a JW mandated objective (i.e. JWDB/JW Mgt Plan) it also directly supports COM & DCOM STRATCOM governance boards (Cyber) and MSO, ACDS Ops & Cts commitments boards (i.e. JCSSG processes). The DXP is the cohering platform for all of JW’s outputs, i.e. Experimentation & Force Development (Info Advantage Campaign Plan, MDI CP, Agile C2 and Op C2), JFT’s exercises (AGILE STANCE CAMPAIGN PLAN and SJFHQ Gp series of exercises) and the various JFI multilateral CT&E desk programmes (NATO, JEF, CJEF and FPDA). The DXP also forms the basis for the INTEGRATED DEFENDER 24 pathway.  The DXP is fundamental to cohering Defence’s exercises.

Responsibilities

Managing the Defence Exercise Programme (DXP) as the deputy programme manager.

Track NATO and other Allies training programmes to identify additional opportunities for Defence; this is inclusive of all FPDA activity.

Assist SO1 Pol Prog in the alignment of the DXP with other Defence activity (Operations and Defence Engagement).

Act as the secretary for the Defence Joint Collective Training Committee (1*).

To identify risks and issues for Defence within the DXP and raise them to 1* level as required.   

Liaise with single Services, MOD, FLCs, allies and coalition partners to ensure DXP requirements are met.       

Support the prioritisation of activity within the DXP to allow the allocation of resources across Defence to support the DXP.

Must be an OR8 - OF3 of any specialisation.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Grasps emerging concepts and can identify key risks to Project success, escalating in a succinct and timely manner when necessary.

Seeks to enhance professional knowledge and understanding of new technology and developments.

Demonstrates knowledge of Service matters and military doctrine.

Demonstrates critical application of available information to arrive at sound, timely decisions.

Creates and grasps opportunities for improvements

Domestic

Place of work. Northwood HQ (JW floorplate) but this job would also suit someone who seeks flexible / agile working.

This role is a short term requirement and required quickly thus precluding the establishment and fill of a sS Reserve, regular or civil servant

The job holder will support the prioritisation of activity within the DXP to allow the allocation of resources across Defence. There is full spectrum exposure across all domains and TLBs. The position is ideal for anyone wanting to broaden their portfolio and KSE. Previous knowledge of the Joint environment would be an advantage but not essential.
