Primary Role. Responsible to the First Lieutenant for a broad spectrum of executive functions that underpin the SULTAN vision. Departmental responsibilities include the leadership and management of Physical Development (PDev), Ceremonial and Military Training (CT) and whole force Command Leadership and Management development.

The CLMO post holder should be an energetic individual with initiative, enthusiasm and ambition to take the PT, CT departments forward and enhance the whole force CLM.  Centred largely on promoting the RN Ethos and Core Service Values, the incumbent will be widely empowered to make full use of the establishment’s considerable resources to deliver upon their wide remit of tasks.

Purpose

Primary Duty. To fulfil and undertake an Executive Staff Officer role, with a remit to be the Command Advisor in all matters relating to Physical Development (Sport, Physical Education & Adventurous Training, Unit Health) and to act as a focal point and coordinator for the implementation of CLM activities across the site.

Secondary Duties

To assume the role and responsibilities of Data Protection Advisor (DPA). To enable specific risks to be identified and managed. The duties of a DPA include the following activities/responsibilities:

  • Manage and review establishment DPA Governance structure.
  • Maintain Air Asset Register (AIAR). Liaise with external authorities and stakeholders.
  • Register all Personal Information Assets (PIAs) on the Air Information Assurance Register.
  • Generate Data Protection Impact Assessments for all (PIAs) that are owned, held and managed within SUL.
  • Chair DPA Committee.
  • Ensure the ‘Risk Management’ page for each asset has been completed. This includes conduct a Privacy Impact Assessment outlining access controls and recording data retention periods.
  • Responsible to the First Lt for Executive functional tasks including administration of Standing Orders, Op Bridge, Military Training Working Group and execution of Duty Commanding Officer responsibilities.
  • Act as the establishment Yachts Officer.
  • Lead planning Officer for Whole Force Events including SULTEC, Bonfire Night, Families Day and the Boxing Show.

Line Management Responsibility.

To act as Line Manager to all PTs, inclusive of undertaking 1RO responsibilities to the CPOPT and 2RO to 3 x POPTs and 10 x LPTs and Direct Entries PTIs as required.

To act as the Line Manager to all Gunnery Staff, inclusive of undertaking 1RO responsibilities to the WO(AAW) and 2RO to 2 x PO(AAW). In addition, advise the First Lt on relevant 1RO text for the Sgt RM.

Must be an OF2 of ANY specialisation. OF1 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered. 

OF2 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OF2.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Must hold or be able to gain the qualifications for:

  • Explosive Safety Officer
  • Sports Officer 
To hold or be able to gain the Information Manager qualification.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 12 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

NB: Where the Anticipated Start date has already passed, the start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
