Primary purpose:

The primary purpose of the Davits & Lifts DTS Senior Rate is to deliver defect repair and planned maintenance support for a wide variety of davit and lift systems alongside industrial partners as directed by military or civilian line management. Support will be delivered as part of a Fleet Time Support Period (FTSP) or for Un-programmed Work (UPW) such as OPDEF rectification. By its nature UPW may require occasional out of hours and weekend work. Any out of hours cover would normally be confined within the Devonport area and recompense delivered as Time off in Lieu (TOIL). On occasions there may be a requirement to provide out of area support (UK and abroad) to meet the needs of the Service.

Secondary purpose:

Provide global deployable engineering support to all classes of platforms within the Surface Fleet, supporting both Ship’s Staff and the Waterfront Service Provider (WFSP), OEMs and other Industry Partners in maintaining the availability and sustainability of Naval Service assets. The role may require working in isolation, as part of a multifaceted team supporting our WFSPs/OEMs deliver OPDEF and Cat B maintenance or more generally providing additional support to Ship’s Staff to aid in Cat A maintenance and routine defect rectification.  The role requires being held at readiness R5 in order to support our ships and you may be expected to deploy at short notice to deliver operational effect. As part of the role, you will also be required to support wartime efforts as part of Forward Support Unit Military Task Group (FSU MTG) – held at R5 (30 days notice)’

Primary Responsibilities:

SURFLOT FSU C FSU 07 GT PO3 responsibilities will be delivered through:

a.    To plan, supervise and carryout engineering support to ships utilising personnel as nominated by Line Manager IAW service level agreement.
b.    Ensure all subordinates maintain the highest standards of discipline, dress and timekeeping.  
c.    Supervise subordinate ratings to ensure completion of work schedule in accordance with the FTSP plan. 
d.    Undertake duties as required by the FSU 07 TL.
e.    Supervise un-programmed work and inspections as required by line manager.
f.    Ensure that all subordinate personnel are aware of and adhere to current H&S regulations.
g.    To ensure all personnel are aware of and adhere to current Quality Management System.
h.    To liaise directly with external authorities to achieve their purpose.
i.    To deputise for line management as required.

Secondary responsibilities:

SURFLOT FSU C FSU 07 GT PO3 secondary responsibilities are:

a.    Act as Divisional Officer/SR to FSU C personnel, liaising with their Divisional Officer as required.
b.    Attend termly divisional briefings to remain up to date with current divisional policy.
c.    Enthuse all staff to engage in activities that develop individual skills, team skills and naval ethos.  ‘Navyfit’ is a way of life and is to be implemented through adventurous training, challenging activities, sport and team events. This develops battle-winning attributes such as fortitude, rigour, robustness, initiative and leadership.
d.    Support Divisional Officers in the facets that contribute to good care of our people.  Two key common areas in which to engage:  
a.    Staff development, to add the most value for, and from, them.  Maintaining an open-mindedness towards the use of coaching and mentoring and the use of reasonable challenge.
b.    Contribute to timely, accurate and thoughtful appraisals.

Must be an OR6-OR7 of ETME specialisation. OR4 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered. 

OR8 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OR7.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.




INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rate or more above or one rate only below the advertised rate. Applicants one rate below may be employed in the acting higher rate (excluding the advertised rate of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rate then the rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 Permanently Unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.

Ex-Regular Reserves other ranks of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however will have to transfer to the RFR and conduct a period of Marinisation if they are selected as the preferred candidate.
