As a National Reserve Officer, be part of a specialised, Hybrid sub-Unit with  22 Regular personnel and 13 Reserves, delivering specialist Materials Testing Capability in direct support of infrastructure projects for Defence and other Government Departments. 

As sub-Unit 2IC you will:

Standard duties of a Sqn 2IC including management of team manning and acting as both Regular and Reserve MS manager and initial career point of contact.

Identify opportunities to integrate the ARes cohort within Regular activities or provide timely reach-back.

Supervise preparation of business cases.

Maximise numbers of ARes personnel achieving CoE.

Deputise for the OC as required.

Technical manager responsible for QMS compliance across all team activity.

Lead with retention of UKAS accreditation according to BS EN 17025:2017.

Act as technical and quality advisor to shape exercise and operational task requirements for external customers.

Second line review of written technical reports.

Experience of soldier career management.

Familiarity with QMS and auditing in either civilian or military environment. If lacking this, the suitable candidate must be prepared to grow into this area quickly.

Have experience or qualifications in; or have a professional interest and understanding or; quality engineering, civil engineering, geology or similar discipline.


Experience working within hybrid units.

RE capbadge preferred or willingness to transfer.

Previous Construction Materials Technician, Clerk of Works (Construction), Military Plant Foreman or civilian equivalent experience would be desirable.

Familiarity with OSW.

Project management experience.

Basic understanding of LUMS applications such as ODR, Churchill etc.


There are multiple opportunities from Spr to Capt across 170 (Infra Sp) Engr Gp. 

Individuals of any rank with any Infrastructure KSE will be considered.



Selection will be made by Unit Board.

Board will consider: civilian CV; relevant competence; relevant qualifications and service history.

It is expected that applicants will be able to commit 88x RSDs per year, with more possible. Current incumbent generally delivers 180x RSDs per year.

Earlier start date could be negotiated.
