Although currently advertised for a Full Commitment, applications will be considered from people only interested FTRS(LC) or FTRS(HC)

Primary Purpose.

To coordinate all aspects of whole Squadron discipline and morale, routines and duties, safety and facilities on behalf of the Executive Officer.

To advise the CO on discipline, morale and military personnel issues as necessary. 

Secondary Purposes.

  • To be the Squadron Manpower Controller.

  • To be Squadron Lead Equality and Diversity Advisor.

  • To be the Squadron Training Co-ordinator.

  • To be the Squadron Assistant Public Relations Officer.

  • To be the Executive Department Divisional Officer.
  • To be the Defence Transport Manager.

Principal Tasks 

The Executive Warrant Officer’s responsibilities are: 

  • Discipline and Morale Tasks.

    • To ensure Service personnel across the standard maintain the highest standards of dress, bearing, courage and values.

    • To coordinate the Squadron’s Personnel Functional Standards return three times a year with the Commanding Officer.

    • To coordinate the Equality and Diversity log and any Squadron training required.

    • To be the Armed Forces Covenant Champion.

  • Routines and Duties Tasks.

    • To engage routinely with tri-service Branch and Career Managers in the coordination of Service personnel joining and departing the Squadron.

    • Act as coordinator of the Divisional System assigning staff to Divisions and supporting the XO in discharging Senior DO responsibilities.

    • Coordinate Continuation Training events including preparation of the schedule and orders.

    • Supervise the accuracy and completeness of the Squadron Training Database as managed by REGISTRY1; to be reported at Personnel Working Group.

    • To be the Charitable Payroll Giving Champion.

    • Aid the Public Relations Officer (XO) with producing content for Internet, Defence Intranet, MOSS and media.

    • Be involved in, attend and co-host Squadron visits and receptions.

    • Employ delegated authority from VL ETO to sign the completion certificate of the Phase 2B and Pre and Post LRQC task books and the assessment certificate of the Post LRQC task book NVQ Appendix.

    • Apply the appropriate JPA competence to an individual’s record when task book completion has been given.
  •  Safety and Facilities Tasks.
    • To plan and oversee the Squadron joining/leaving process, including the management and execution of Induction Briefs.

Other Considerations

The Training Requirements for this post are identified in the 1710 NAS Training Database and the subsequent individual Training Plan will be agreed with Line Manager.

Must be an OR9 of ANY specialisation including Royal Marines.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Previous EWO or People Management experience would be desirable.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


The Anticipated Start date is 1 Mar 22 or ASAP after this date


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rate, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rate or more above or one rate only below the advertised rate. Applicants one rate below may be employed in the acting higher rate (excluding the advertised rate of WO2 or WO1) if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rate then the rate worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 Permanently Unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.

Ex-Regular Reserves other ranks of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however will have to transfer to the RFR and conduct a period of Marinisation if they are selected as the preferred candidate.
