A vacancy may arise for a Sergeant, TG13, to serve as a Sgt RAF MIAA at RAF Coningsby on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 31 October 2022 (or earlier depending on the circumstances of the successful candidate).

Sgt RAF MIAA is responsible for the assessment, support and development of all aspects of the TG1 & TG13 Military Apprenticeships delivered to Apprentices across all UK Main Operating Bases.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carry out all aspects of TG1 & TG13 Vocational Diploma and Apprenticeship End Point Assessment as deemed necessary by Line Management, which may include, but not limited to, observing Apprentices undertaking technical tasks in their work area, interviewing Apprentices, facilitating professional discussions, assessing written assessments, projects and assignments, reviewing evidence portfolios, regularly reviewing Apprentice progress and setting targets.
  • Cross mapping the EPA and Vocational activities against the relevant TG1 & TG13 Apprenticeship and/or Vocational Qualification Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours to ensure all assessment criteria have been sufficiently and adequately covered and ensuring any gaps are addressed.
  • Ensuring all Apprentices are kept safe and have equal opportunities in achieving their qualification, catering for recognised SpLDs and Particular Assessment needs as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing all Apprenticeship related paperwork and ensuring the Management Information System(s) is kept up to date.
  • Providing feedback to Apprentices and their Line Management on performance, including advice on ways to improve performance where necessary.
  • Ensuring safe custody of all Apprenticeship documentation.
  • Developing, maintaining and reviewing organizational policy, processes and procedures.
  • Playing an active role in regular training and standardisation activities across all UK MOBs with TG1 & TG13 Apprentices.
  • Implementation and development of MIAA Centre Policies.
  • Maintaining the quality requirements of all relevant interested parties e.g. the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE), Ofsted, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), The Apprenticeship Management Team (AMT) and the MIAA.
  • Liaising with all external and internal bodies associated with the End Point Assessment e.g. Employer Nominated Technical Experts, Apprentice Line Management, AMT, External Quality Assurers and IfATE where necessary.
  • Maintaining and providing evidence of ongoing, relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Assisting in Internal and External Quality Audit activities of TG1 & TG13 MIAA and Apprenticeship Centres.
  • Must either have been, or currently be, a Sergeant TG13, or a Corporal TG13, eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board.
  • Hold a full UK driving license and will be required to obtain an FMT 600.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate our learners working towards national qualifications.
  • Work unsupervised within a team environment.
  • Good IT and Keyboard skills.
  • Excellent personnel management skills.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undertake Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Clearance. If not already held, this must be achieved, or appropriate waiver granted, before any formal offer of employment is made.
  • A thorough understanding of current RAF Aeronautical Apprenticeship Standards, their associated vocational qualifications and EPA.
  • Training Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) Level 3 Assessor qualification, or recognised equivalent.
  • Have recent experience assessing Aeronautical Engineering Apprenticeships at level 2 and Level 3.
  • Level 3 Qualification in Undertaking End Point Assessment.
  • Experience in carrying out End Point Assessments.
  • Q-Gen-QAS (Quality Auditor Skills) and X-700.
  • Q-Gen-QAS Lead Auditor.
  • Health and Safety Risk Assessor.

Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 16 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 5 years.

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board. Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis.

Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment. Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Branch & Trade Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview.

Regular Service Applicants. Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the QR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS. 

Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager. Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT). Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

Annual Salary and Leave. Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces. Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC) TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
