SO2 Medical 1 Aviation Brigade

Responsibilities: 

Develop role's responsibilities, work-strands and employment training requirements within the new 1 Aviation Brigade HQ construct in consultation with CoC. Including Job Spec updates as required.

1. Assure the Medical elements of all 1 Avn Bde activity, including Operations, overseas Training Exercises and UK based collective & individual training.

2. Advise the Brigade (Bde) Comd and Bde G3/G4/G5 on medical and health considerations on Operations and Bde Exercises. Lead on the implementation of medical policy for the Bde.

3. Advise, generate and assure Med Ops/Plans for the Brigade in line with Army Command Standing Order (ACSO) 3215. Provide Med planning guidance to all Bde Operational Staff Work. Support G3/4 staff for Operational Commitments, Trg & overseas Ex.

4. Working with 1 Avn Bde’s Consultant in Aviation Medicine - Attack, advise Bde units on medical and health policy. Spt/advise Comd/DCOS on Bde Health Committee & Deployability meetings in line with AGAI 57, using EPINATO, ASER and other medical information feeds as required.

5. Provide Healthcare Assurance advice as well as conduct Advisory visits and Assurance inspections in line with the Army Healthcare Assurance Framework. Identify and mitigate risk at all levels

6. Liaise with Med across Joint Aviation Command, Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, Defence Primary Healthcare, Land Operations Cell, RAF Tactical Medical Wing, Special Forces and other healthcare providers. MS: Be prepared to provide Med HofA inserts.

7. Apply critical thinking & analytical problem solving to deliver training plans and embracing the future operating environment.

8. Facilitate good working relationships through understanding people and effective social skills to support collaboration.  Empathy with Tri-Service and Civil Servant work force required.

Must be an OF3 of Medical specialisation. OF2 applicants with a positive recommendation in their most recent annual OJAR/SJAR may be considered for the role and the award of Acting Higher Rank (AHR). It is stressed that whilst a single positive recommendation will make you eligible for consideration, your entire OJAR/SJAR dossier will be considered for AHR in line with the principles of BR3(1) Part 8 and approval is not guaranteed.

OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OF3.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Military Medical background from either Army, RAF, RN or RM.

Must be comfortable in the staff environment and able to brief up to Div level.

DV- if not held can be attained once in post.

DBS Enhanced- if not held can be attained once in post.

Joint Medical Operations Planning Course - if not held can be attained once in post.

Healthcare Governance Level 2 & 3 - if not held can be attained once in post.

Human Factors Training - 1 day course - provided on assumption of role.

ICSC(LR) - can be undertaken once in post.

Understanding of Avn Med policies: RA 2135 & AP2169A - familiarisation can be provided in role.

Operational Any theatre Desired Operational experience helps provide a reflective knowledge base when conducting Health Risk Assessments.

Fields/Trades Medical Support Officer Desirable The medical planning nature of the role aligns it principally to the Medical Support Officer trade. Equally applications welcome from other medical trades providing they can show aptitude for a staff role.

Environments Cold weather, Arid desert, Tropics Temperate EA 1 & 2 and Jungle. Desirable The Avn Bde either deploy assets to train in such conditions or are on task in such locations. Experience of working in such conditions helps underpin staff advice provid

This role presents a unique opportunity to serve with one of the most potent fighting elements of the British Army.  

As the SO2 Med in the Avn Bde you will be the Bde Comd’s principle medical planning Officer.  Using ACSO 3215 you will assure the medical plans of all the Bde’s unit deployments and lead on the medical plan when the Bde deploys.

Working with the Bde's Consultant in Aviation Medicine, you will assure the medical personnel within the unit UAPs, affirming they are clinically current and able to deliver their war fighting roles, using the Army Health Assurance Framework.

The Bde is currently on a modernisation drive, ensuring it is fit to fight for the conflicts of the 21st century.  Utilising the latest model of the Apache, the Mark E, it has begun its journey to being a fully deployable entity concurrently developing crewed/uncrewed capabilities.  

The successful applicant will join the Bde as it prepares to conduct a major exercise in early to mid-2027
