Position Role: In 2021 the Integrated Reivew and Defence Command Paper established a new context for the UK's Defence relationship with Germany, set against the raipd drawdown of British forces in 2019. Based on this and the widely acknowledged strategic political, economic and military importance of Germany as a Tier 1 partner, it is vital that the increasing momentum of GBR/DEU military activity is maintained and broadened. Interoperability, mutual trust and understanding facilitated by Liaison Officers remain important to successfully operating with one of our three key partners in the future. The appointment of BLO to German Army HQ is one that can influence the current and future higher command of the German Army. Delivering a positive picture of the British Army is key to maintaining and enhancing mutual understanding and co-operation between the British and German Armed Forces. Responsibilities: - Contribute to the Army's modernisation and transformation, specifically supporting the Land pillar of the Trinity House Agreement. - Provide understanding of and insight into German PME and contribute to increasing UK Defence status and influence. - Contribute to the Security Cooperation and Land Ops LOEs of the Army Intl Engagement Framework by providing insight into the German Army. - Act as the primary link into the German Army HQ, maintaining relationships and awareness with staff branches and linking with Army HQ in UK. - Track German Army operational development within and beyond NATO. Identify and exploit opportunities for cooperation and common development. - Provide a UK perspective on staff training and doctrine, including the delivery of lectures, briefings and seminars. - On behalf of SBLO(G), ensure the sound organisation and administration of the BLO(G) network, covering EJSU J1/J4 support, Info Mgmt and MS. Domestic Considerations: - Useful if the spouse speaks German. - BLO(G)FD is a singleton post based in the local German-speaking community.
