Vacancy detail

A vacancy has arisen for a Corporal (Any Profession) to serve as JNCO Recruiter at Armed Forces Career Office (AFCO) Leeds, on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 29 July 2024 (or earlier/later, depending on the candidate status).

RAF Recruiting & Selection (R&S) Mission is to attract and select for training the diversity, quantity, and quality of people necessary to sustain RAF operational capability. As a JNCO Recruiter based out of AFCO Leeds, you are responsible for recruiting and selecting Regular Officers and Aviators from across society to meet Into Training Requirements (ITRs) and achieve the Workforce Plan as handed down by Command HQs. You are to accomplish this through the day-to-day administration and expeditious handling of all Officer and Other Rank (OR) cases within the AFCO; by mentoring candidates throughout the recruitment process in accordance with the principles of effective Candidate Relationship Management (CRM); and by contributing as required to Career Engagement activities designed to raise the profile of the RAF within Educational Establishments (EEs), the Air Cadets Organisation (ACO), and various public events. In discharging your duties, you are to ensure that both best practice and value for money are achieved in meeting the requirements of AP3391.

Responsibilities: You are responsible to OC Yorkshire and Humber Hub (AFCO Leeds, Sheffield and Hull) for performing the following specified duties:

RITS Casework & Administration. Day-to-day administration and expeditious handling of all Officer and OR cases within the AFCO, including:

  • Ensuring the safe handling and security of test materials, medical in confidence documents, and all other sensitive material.
  • Carrying out timely preparation of Officer and OR casework, and scanning documentation iaw AP3391 and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018)
  • Ensuring the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive RITS records on all potential Officer and OR entrants in accordance with RITS SOPs.
  • Ensuring the timely dispatch of all relevant RITS communications.

Presentations

  • Booking Officer candidates onto Officer presentations
  • Booking OR candidates onto, and delivering, OR Presentations.

DAA Event

  • Ensuring efficient conduct and administration of the Defence Aptitude Assessment (DAA) and carrying out OR Trade Counselling in accordance with AP3391.

Interviews

  • Ensuring that any initial interviews convey to candidates the most current and up to date information in relation to current career opportunities within the RAF, PMRAFNS and RAF Reserves.
  • Conducting interviews, debrief interviews and issue/prepare relevant waivers.
  • Record outcome of interviews on RITS within one working day, iaw AP3391.

Spec Int/Intake Bookings

  • Requesting bookings for Specialist Interviews and Intakes.

CRM

  • Mentoring candidates in accordance with the principles of effective CRM, to ensure that the candidate journey is a smooth as possible, the regularity of contact with the candidate is right for each individual, and the necessary support and guidance is available when needed.

Career Engagement. Undertaking and contributing to RAF Career Engagement activity as directed, both in and outside working hours and at weekends, by:

  • Delivering careers presentations at selected EEs and other venues that may involve travelling significant distances and/or entering locales requiring pre-assessment of local security conditions.
  • Representing RAF R&S at events such as shows and careers fairs, (duties which may include carrying heavy loads, such as boxes of recruiting literature and/or bulky display items, and then staffing stands and other platforms for prolonged periods of time, often without regular pauses for rest and/or refreshment).
  • Visiting, establishing close relations with, and delivering Career Engagement activities to units of the (ACO).
  • Further utilising the knowledge and skills associated with your own Profession in support of specific Career Engagement events and/or activities.
  • Acting as role model for the youth population, both on and off duty, but most especially at public events, shows and exhibitions.

This role will involve some evening and weekend work and applicants must also be prepared to travel with some duties involving overnight stays within Limited Commitment terms of Service.

Must either have been, or currently be, a Corporal Any or a L/Cpl, AS1, AS1 (Tech) eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board. If an applicant has been out of full-time military service and is applying for a post on promotion, they will also need to send their civilian appraisals or equivalent to evidence recent skills, knowledge, and experience to be considered by the Promotion Board.

  • Confident and clear verbal skills, able to engage effectively, supportively, and enthusiastically with civilian applicants.
  • Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Able to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Able to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Good IT skills (including MS Office applications particularly MS Excel).
  • Must be prepared to travel to undertake visits to locations throughout UK.
  • Possess a full UK driving licence.
  • All applications subject to DBS/PVG clearance.
  • Have recent RAF recruiting experience. Dependant on time out of recruiting the selected candidate may be required to undertake the RAF Recruiting Course.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Has experience of working with children of Secondary School age.
  • Experience of working with external partner agencies.
  • Experience working within a busy office environment.

Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the Royal Air Force Reserves with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

The appointment is on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2, contract to run until 31st March 2026 (subject to confirmation from Recruitment Force Commander).

Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister Services may apply but will only be accepted into the Royal Air Force Reserves if an appropriate Professions advisor can be identified to sponsor the applicant.  The relevant Profession’s advisor approval must be agreed before the interview.

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged through the KR1027 process will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391.

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.

Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS. 

Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC/HC)/ADC TCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB. However, there is no accommodation available with this position.
