Primary Purpose

1. To direct and oversee the running of RNAS Yeovilton’s Air Operations Organisation to ensure that safe, efficient and timely air operations are conducted at RNAS Yeovilton and Merryfield aerodromes; all within current regulations.

Secondary Purposes

2. To act as Line Manager and Divisional Officer for all Air Operations Staff, liaising with the Air Department Coordinator on departmental manning requirements.

3. To act as the central coordinator for all Maritime Security (MS) operations and to be the primary POC for external agencies in MS matters.

4. To act as custodian and administrator for Air Operations’ classified books and cryptographic material.

PRINCIPAL TASKS

1. To liaise with Squadron Operations Officers to assist them to achieve their flying programmes within the constraints of the Air Station.

2. To produce and promulgate the airfield opening and closing times for Yeovilton and Merryfield.

SECONDARY TASKS

1. To produce the 6-monthly signal allocating Mode 2 IFF codes for Yeovilton-based Squadrons and Flights.

2. To be responsible for the compilation of the Stations Hazards and Obstructions database including the promulgation of received data to all Yeovilton Based squadrons and relevant mapping/NOTAM agencies.

3. The setting up of a Search and Rescue Organisation for Operations and exercises as directed by the Command and ongoing incident.

4. To be responsible for the training and development of subordinates, ensuring that all necessary action is taken to meet the training and development needs of individuals, teams and ultimately the Air Ops organisation.

5. To act as the ASIMS Supervisor for Air Operations.

6. Ensure that the principles, processes and practices of Inclusion and Diversity are embedded within all aspects of Air Operations’ business, with particular emphasis on ensuring a proactive and positive contribution to the Leadership Challenge of eradicating all forms of bullying and harassment.

7. To conduct general naval and administrative duties as required by Command.

Must be an OR8 of ANY specialisation.  

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Ex-Regular Reserves of an equivalent rank from sister services may apply, however will have to transfer to the RFR and conduct a period of Marinisation if they are selected as the preferred candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Specialisation: ACMN / AC / AH or by exception AWT

Competencies:

Mandatory:

a. HF and EM Foundation Training.

Preferred:

a. Computer Literate.

b. Aviation background.

c. Experience of working within Operations.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE TWO YEARS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

The start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. 

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
