Subject to formal establishment amendment, a vacancy may arise for a Sgt PTI – FDI - to serve as SNCO Instructor at Robson Resilience Centre St Mawgan (RRC S) on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 04 July 2022 (or earlier, depending upon applicant status and formal establishment of position).  

Robson Resilience Centre based at RAF St Mawgan, Cornwall, delivers Eagles Schemes on behalf of the Resilience Wing (RW) to RAF personnel. RRC S's mission is: Delivering through life personal development, via experiential learning, ​utilising the idyllic natural geography of Cornwall.

ResponsibilitiesSpecific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the timely and safe delivery of all RRC S Eagles iaw Resilience Wing policy and ensure the aims of Force Development and Generic Performance Statement are incorporated into the daily training outputs.
  • Provide assistance to the CI in the delivery of wider RAR Eagles outputs as required.
  • Assist the CI in the development and coordination of any RRC S staff training.
  • Responsible for PPE checks on all required equipment and maintaining accurate records.
  • Responsible for the completion of Site Specific Risk Assessment when tasked to assess a new area.
  • You are responsible for completing RAF mandated safety training, maintaining currencies and being familiar with the requirements and methods for RW Occurrence reporting.
  • You will be the inventory holder for either equipment or Infrastructure assets.
  • You will act as Building Custodian or deputy for the accommodation block T Forbes, implementing and maintaining all H&S, daily procedures and manage the HO/TO processes for all the facility users.
  • You are to ensure the CoC is informed of any MT, stores and equipment maintenance issues iaw Unit SOPs inc PPE, accident reporting and LIs.
  • You will be managing files on RRC S Sharepoint.
  • You will be responsibility for managing the RRC S TOPL/ Land Clearance by completing BAMS booking requests.

    As an integral member of RRC S, the post holder will be expected to undertake the same duties required of their Regular and civilian instructor counterparts. This will may include spending nights away on expeditions or training courses; or supporting other Centre events as necessary.

    Applicants must be able to work independently and as part of a team. In addition, candidates must be proactive and confident at speaking with all personnel, delivering briefs and using Social Media. Furthermore, candidates must have effective communication, organisation and office skills and be computer literate.

    • Must either have been, or currently be, a Sgt RAF PTI – FDI – or a Cpl RAF PTI – FDI – eligible for promotion in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 2 Leaflet 560 and AP 3376 Vol 1. All Promotions will be ratified by means of a Promotion Board.
    • Must be a qualified Force Development Instructor.
    • Must hold JS Rock Climbing Multi Pitch Leader.
    • Must hold JS Mountain Bike Leader.
    • Must hold DTTT or equivalent.
    • Hold a current UK Cat B (car) driving licence.
    • Disclosure & Barring Service Check (Enhanced).
    • SUP Adventure Guide.
    • Coastal Waters: One of the following: Offshore Sailing Day Skipper, SADs, Senior Beach Lifeguard, Advanced Water Sea Kayak Leader or equivalent.
    • RYA VHF Radio qualification
    • ILM/CMI Level 5 Coaching & Mentoring

    Unless already enlisted in the Reserve Air Forces the successful applicant will be required to be enlisted in the RAFR with a liability for call-out for permanent service.

    The appointment is on FTRS (LC) TCoS in accordance with AP 3392 Vol 7 Part 1 Chapter 16 and AP3392 Vol 7 Part 3 Chapter 2 for an initial period of 4 years.

    Confirmation of appointment will depend on successful completion of a RAF Medical Board.  Personnel who do not meet the Age/Permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard (PJMES) may apply for the appointment but will only be considered subject to an executive waiver process on a case by case basis.

    Candidates who have been out of regular or reserve service for more than 5 years may be considered for this appointment.  Prior approval must be sought from the relevant Branch & Trade Advisor to confirm current and past experience prior to being invited to interview.

    Applicants of an equivalent rank from sister Services may apply but will only be accepted into RAFR service if an appropriate branch/trade sponsor can be identified to sponsor the applicant.  Branch/trade sponsor approval must be agreed before the interview.

    Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Royal Air Force should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Branch/Trade and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.

    Ex-service candidates who have been administratively discharged will have their applications rejected as they are not eligible to join the RAF Reserves in accordance with AP 3391 (Vol 3, Lft 207, Annex L, Para 1a).

    Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.

    Transition between TCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TCoS. 

    Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserves personnel are able to request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.

    Individual Reinforcement Training (IRT) (Module 1) and RAF Fitness Test (RAFFT).  Reserve personnel are required to maintain currency in IRT and the RAFFT iaw the relevant TCoS.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake IRT and the RAFFT within 6 months of commencing employment (if required).

    Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published for the reserve air forces.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.

    Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS(LC) TCoS are eligible to Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at entitled rates, if serving within the Air Command TLB.
