Primary Purpose

 To promote physical fitness in the Royal Navy by providing; funding, equipment, guidance, testing and assurance to frontline units and establishments through the regional construct.

Secondary Purposes

1. To facilitate the RNFT Review Project under the direction of SO1 PEd/CO Temeraire.

2. To discharge delegated financial authority ensuring expenditure is committed iaw the financial delegation framework.

b. SEGWG budget (public)

c. RNFT budget (public)

d. Regional Sports budget (non-public)

3. To act as the military lead in co-ordinating the quality assurance processes of the PDev agenda across the PT Specialisation, ashore, afloat and overseas.

4. To be 1 RO to OR7 Operational Fitness and the RNFTO, Provide SME and Line Management advice to Regional Commands and Reporting Officer's for PTs in isolated locations (inc overseas).

5. Future planning, funding and provision of physical fitness and training equipment to sea-going units.

6. To act as the Naval Authority for the development of Tri-Service policy wrt to Operational Fitness1 and the provision and maintenance of CV & SE and Sports Equipment for sea going units and establishments.

ACCOUNTABILITY

 SO2 Op Fitness is accountable to CO TEMERAIRE and Captain People Support  

PRINCIPAL TASKS

1. To develop, assure and where necessary improve the implementation of Royal Navy PDev policies.

2. To act as the Military HQ Lead for the delivery of PDev under the regional construct.

3. To act as the RN lead for the Tri-Service procurement and maintenance of strength and conditioning equipment and sports equipment; drafting Statements of User Requirements (SURs) and ensuring that specific equipment for sea going units is procured.

4. To act as the RN lead for the Tri-Service procurement and maintenance of Joint Deployable Physical Training Equipment (JDPTE) used on operations and exercises.

5. To represent and provide Royal Navy influence in association with Tri-Service PDev policy, its delivery and assurance wrt:

a. All elements related to RN PDev.

b. Amendments to associated JSPs and DINs.

6. Facilitate access to RN Assets for the Institute of Naval medicine as part of the RNFT Review, and development of Physical Employment Standards (PES).

7. Approve changes to BRd 51.

8. To oversee the provision of PDev support to personnel working in Isolated locations.

9. Provide Op Fitness briefs to PT and CPOPT Seminars, CPOPTQC/POPTQC & Sea Acquaint/PDev Officer Desig courses.

10. To act as the lead for Physical Fitness content for the Navyfit website

11. To oversee and ensure participation in the Operational Fitness League and bi-annual Fleet Competition events and to be Fleet Trophies PLR custodian for those competitions.

12. To carry out the duties of TDO, HMS Temeraire.

13. To be a uniformed member of the “on call” NPS Casualty Notification Sprint Team.

Must be an OF3 of ANY specialisation. OF2 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR may be considered. 

OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and normally wear the rank of OF3.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

1. The post holder is to:

a. Have had experience of sea service.

b. Have experience of budget and contract management.

c. Be Staff experienced.

d. Attend PDev Officers course A/R.

2. The post holder should be experienced in the formulation, practical delivery of Training policy, particularly with regard to physical training and development and its assurance.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

The start date will be 4 Oct 22 or ASAP after this date


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be interviewed at the discretion of the Line Manager and may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
