Unit Role:  

UKStratCom is to provide 4* command, direction and assurance through Directorate of Overseas Bases (DOB) pan-Permanent Joint Overseas Bases (PJOBs), and JACIG, and exercise appropriate policy-aware and compliant PJOB management and administration on behalf of, and is accountable to, Director Overseas Bases (Dir OB).

Position Role:

Delivering coherent, co-ordinated J35 understanding and advice to Dir OB, UKStratCom, PJHQ, MOD and the PJOBs, iot support the UK’s military standing commitments, ensuring that the PJOBs are structured and enabled to deliver their role as Forward Mounting Bases including garrison management and support to contingent Ops. Providing linkage between J3 and J5 areas of the Directorate and mitigating the impact of trawls and DWRs on the overseas locations.

Responsibilities: 

1.  Managing the Force Generation (FGen) process and response to DWRs from AIR for all the overseas bases. 
2.   Act as Desk Officer for the Joint Arms Control Implementation Group (JACIG).
3.   Act as Desk Officer for the Global Support Organisation (GSO). 
4.  Take a determined and uncompromising approach to resolving problems and issues in an innovative and timely manner, that are outside of the other Desk Officers capacity to resolve.
5.  Manage the DirOB Duty Officer’s roster.
6.  Act as DirOB Duty Officer as required.
7.  Act as DFO for Northwood site as required.
8.   Co-ordinate the completion and promulgation of the DirOB weekly DOWNREP.  

Domestic Considerations:  

An incumbent not residing at Northwood or within daily commuting distance of Northwood, may be required to remain in the local area on call for protracted periods when operational requirements dictate. Some weekend work and foreign travel may be also be required

Must be an OF3 of RN WELRM (OF) specialisation. OF2 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR may be considered. 

OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and normally wear the rank of OF3.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Military Quals - ICSC - Desirable - A thorough understanding of staff processes and the military strategic/operational level of command 
Other Quals/CompetencieS -  JOPC - Desirable - Could be completed in post
Clearances - DV - Desirable - Requirement to access S as Duty Officer and ASSESSREPs on a regular basis. 

Experience

Service/Arm/OGD - FLC/MOD - Desirable    
Staff - Joint - Desirable - Experience of working on the staff in a Joint environment highly desirable.  Understanding of MOD processes highly advantageous.

Applicants will undergo an initial eligibility sift. Successful applicants will have their details forwarded to the Post Sponsor to arrange interviews. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Following interviews; the successful applicant will be informed that they are the Preferred Candidate with details being sent to the CM RES FTRS Cell who will continue the recruitment process. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised accordingly.

Once the recruitment process is complete then the Preferred Candidate will be invited to take up FTRS.

The start date is the anticipated one however, applicants should be aware a number of factors will potentially impact on this including the completion of pre-employment checks, medical category confirmation and the award of a Security Clearance. The start date could therefore be adjusted as appropriate – earlier for a fully qualified person with their and the employers agreement, or later if approvals cannot be immediately completed.


INITIAL COMMITMENT LENGTH WILL BE 24 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL TO EXTEND

NB: Where the Anticipated Start date has already passed, the start date will be ASAP


Eligibility for FTRS/ADC

Any member of the Maritime Volunteer Reserves (RNR, RMR) or the Royal Fleet Reserves (RFR) (Ex-Regular Reserve) may volunteer to undertake a period of FTRS/ADC. Ex-Regular personnel whose RFR liability has run out may be re-instated to take up FTRS/ADC.

Applicants undertaking a period of FTRS/ADC must be suitably qualified by rank, specialisation, qualifications and experience to fill the posts for which they apply. Applications will be accepted from reservists who hold one rank or more above or one rank only below the advertised rank. Applicants one rank below may be interviewed at the discretion of the Line Manager and may be employed in the acting higher rank if they are suitable, qualified and meet current promotion regulations in all respects. Applicants prepared to serve in a position at a lower rank then the rank worn will be appropriate to that of the position. Exceptions will not normally be considered.

Applicants must also be medically fit to fulfil the duties which their Commitment will require them to undertake. Personnel who have been discharged P8 permanently unsuitable Naval Service through the MBOS and Employability Board will not be considered.
